WAC Lighting FM-306CS Disc LED 5-CCT Selectable Flush Mount, Wet Location Aluminum
The WAC Lighting FM-306CS Disc LED 5-CCT Selectable Flush Mount uses multiple high-powered integrated LEDs behind an opaque acrylic diffuser to deliver uniform illumination without the socket shadows common in conventional flush mounts. WAC Lighting FM-306-9CS-WT – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Do I need a junction box to install this WAC Disc LED flush mount, or can it drop into an existing recessed can?
Either way works. The FM-306CS is a hardwired fixture that mounts on a ceiling or wall directly over an electrical junction box, and it ships with a retrofit kit (mounting clips plus an E26 socket) that lets it go into an existing 4 inch to 6 inch recessed can. No external transformer is needed, which is why it clears low-ceiling and tight-plenum spots.
2) Is this WAC flush mount legal to install in a clothes closet?
It is closet rated, and it is also ADA compliant, which is the other reason it gets specified in corridors and small rooms where a projecting fixture would be a problem. That combination is what makes it a common pick for apartment closets and hallways in multi-family work.
3) Can I set the color temperature on the WAC FM-306CS after it is installed, or do I order a fixed Kelvin?
One part covers five color temperatures. A switch on the fixture selects 2700K, 3000K, 3500K, 4000K or 5000K, so you stock a single SKU and set 2700K in residential units and 4000K or 5000K in back-of-house or garage areas. For property managers standardizing across a building, it means one fixture matches whatever the existing color is.
4) What dimmer works with the WAC Disc LED flush mount?
Use an ELV or TRIAC (forward phase) dimmer. On those it dims smoothly down to 10 percent. It runs on 120V line voltage with an integrated ACLED module, so there is no driver or transformer to match, but a 0-10V control will not work with it.
5) Does the WAC FM-306CS meet California Title 24 for new residential construction?
It is CEC Title 24 JA8-2016 compliant and Energy Star 2.0 certified, so it counts as a high-efficacy luminaire for California residential permits. It is also ETL and cETL listed, CSA and UL 1598 listed, which covers the Canadian side of the job.
6) Do I ever have to change a bulb in the FM-306CS, and how long does the LED last?
There is no lamp to replace. The light source is a single integrated LED module, included with the fixture, rated for 50,000 hours. For an MRO or facilities crew that means the relamping line item disappears; the fixture is replaced as a unit at end of life.
7) Can I buy the WAC FM-306CS in case quantities for a multi-unit job?
Yes. The Disc flush mount is sold as a single fixture or in 4 pack, 10 pack and 24 pack quantities, which is the usual way it moves on apartment turns and corridor retrofits where you are hanging dozens of the same fixture.
8) Will this WAC Disc fixture show socket shadows or hot spots through the lens?
No. Multiple LEDs sit behind an opaque white acrylic diffuser rather than a single lamp behind a glass shade, so the face lights evenly with no visible hot spots. The distribution is flood, which is what you want washing a corridor or closet ceiling.
9) How much power does the FM-306CS draw and how good is the color rendering?
The Disc runs 15W at 120V and renders at 90 CRI, high enough for corridors, closets and bath areas where you care how finishes and clothing read. At 15W it is a straightforward swap for an older incandescent or CFL flush mount on the same circuit.
