WAC Lighting FM-252124-CS-BZ – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can the WAC FM-RNCS flush mount be installed over an existing pancake or 4-inch junction box?
Yes. The FM-RNCS uses a twist-on mounting bracket that installs over pancake, 3in, 4in, or 3/0-4/0 hybrid junction boxes, so in most retrofits you reuse the box that is already in the ceiling. It is a hardwired 120V fixture, not plug-in, so a splice at the box is required.
2) How do you change the color temperature on the WAC FM-RNCS, and can it be done after it is mounted?
Color temperature is set by a switch on the back of the fixture, selectable between 2700K, 3000K, 3500K, 4000K and 5000K. To reach it you twist the fixture down off the electrical box, flip the switch, and twist it back on. That means one SKU covers warm residential 2700K through 5000K task light, and a property manager can field-match the rest of the building without reordering.
3) Will the FM-RNCS LED flush mount dim without flicker on my existing dimmers?
It dims continuously down to 5 percent and is built for ELV or TRIAC dimmers, which are the two types WAC calls for. If the room is on an older incandescent-only rotary or a 0-10V control, swap the control rather than the fixture. There is no separate driver to buy, the LED module is integral.
4) Is this WAC round flush mount approved for a walk-in closet or a covered porch?
Both. The FM-RNCS is closet rated for installation in closets and carries an IP44 rating for dry, damp and wet locations, interior or exterior, so a covered exterior ceiling is in scope. It is also ADA compliant, which matters on corridor and stair ceilings in commercial work.
5) Does the FM-RNCS meet California Title 24 JA8 for new residential work?
Yes. The fixture is listed as CEC Title 24 JA8-2016 and Title 20 compliant, and it is ETL and cETL Listed to CSA UL #1598. That combination is what a California inspector looks for on a hardwired residential ceiling luminaire. Note it is not Energy Star qualified, so if your rebate program requires Energy Star specifically, this one will not satisfy it.
6) Is a 45W LED flush mount enough for a great room with high ceilings?
That is the intended application. The FM-RNCS is the large-format size in WAC's Round collection, drawing 45W at 120V with a flood distribution and CRI 90+, aimed at great rooms, large living spaces and tall-ceiling areas rather than a small bath or entry. For a lower-traffic hall or a small closet, a smaller fixture in the same family is the better pick.
7) Can the WAC FM-RNCS be surface mounted on a wall instead of a ceiling?
Yes, it is rated for ceiling or wall mounting, so it works as a wall-mounted ambient fixture in a stairwell or corridor as well as flush to the ceiling. Wall use still requires a hardwired 120V box behind it with the twist-on bracket secured to the box.
8) What finishes does the WAC FM-RNCS come in for matching other fixtures in a building?
Three finishes on the aluminum housing: Black, Bronze, and White. The diffuser is soft white acrylic in all three, so the lit appearance is the same across finishes and you can mix them room to room without the ceilings looking different at night.
