Modern Forms F-1811-5-LED-27GH – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Which Modern Forms fans does the F-1811-5 LED light kit fit?
The F-1811-5 kit is built only for the Aviator 5/70 fans: FH-W1811-5 flush mount, FR-W1811-5 downrod, and FR-W1811-70. It will not mount to other Modern Forms fan bodies, so if your fan model is not one of those three, this is the wrong kit.
2) Can this Aviator fan light kit be installed outdoors on a covered patio or exposed location?
Yes. The F-1811-5 light kit is UL and cUL Wet Location Listed, with a Wet location rating, so it can go on an Aviator fan indoors or outdoors, including exposed locations where the fixture may be rained on.
3) What do I have to specify when ordering the F-1811-5 light kit?
Two things: color temperature and finish. Color temperature comes in 2700K, 3000K, and 3500K, and the finish is either Graphite or Matte Black. The kit is not field-adjustable between color temperatures, so order the Kelvin value that matches the rest of the lighting in the space and the finish that matches the fan.
4) My Aviator fan currently has a blank cover instead of a light. Can I add this light kit later?
Yes, that swap works both directions on Aviator 5/70 fans. The light kit can be replaced with a cover, and by the same token a fan running a cover plate can take the F-1811-5 kit. It's a common retrofit when a property manager wants light added to fans already installed on an Aviator opening.
5) How much light does the Aviator LED light kit put out, and is it enough for a room?
1600 delivered lumens at 19W (19.5W of power), diffused through opal etched mouth blown triplex glass. At 90 CRI the color rendering is accurate enough for living spaces, hospitality, and retail areas where color matters. The glass diffuser spreads the output rather than throwing a hot spot straight down.
6) Does installing this light kit on an Aviator fan require wiring or special tools?
It uses a twist-lock design, so the kit mates to the fan's light-kit port by hand rather than needing the fixture wired in the field. Modern Forms publishes an installation guide for the kit, and following it is worth the two minutes on a wet-location install where the gasket seating matters.
7) Will this LED fan light kit pass California Title 24?
Yes. The F-1811-5 is CEC Title 24/Title 20 compliant with 90 CRI, which is the color rendering threshold Title 24 looks for on residential lighting. That matters for multi-family and new-construction work in California where the ceiling fan light has to count toward compliant lighting.
8) If I'm ordering several Aviator light kits for one building, can I get them all the same color temperature and finish?
Yes. Every finish and color temperature combination is orderable, so a fleet of Aviator fans can be standardized on, say, 3000K in Matte Black, or 2700K in Graphite. Keeping one Kelvin value across a lobby or corridor run avoids the visible mismatch you get when kits are ordered piecemeal.
