WAC Lighting WAC-HLED810 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the WAC Lighting LED810 Impulse track head fit my existing H-track?
The LED810 Impulse head is built as an H track fixture, so it drops onto H-style (Halo pattern) track running at 120V line voltage. It is not a complete system, meaning the track section, power feed and end caps are ordered separately. If the ceiling already has H track energized at 120V, the head is all you need.
2) Should I order the 20 degree or 40 degree beam on the WAC Impulse LED810?
Beam spread is an order choice of 20 or 40 degrees. The 20 degree is the accent beam: artwork, a single display case, a merchandising column where you want the light to stop at the object. The 40 degree is the general wash, better for shelving runs, a reception desk, or spacing heads further apart on a long track without scallop gaps between pools.
3) Can I get the WAC LED810 Impulse in a color temperature that matches the rest of my building?
Four color temperatures are offered on the Impulse head: 2700K, 3000K, 3500K and 4000K. For hospitality and multi-family common areas 2700K or 3000K keeps the warm residential look; 3500K is the usual office and retail standard; 4000K reads neutral-white for healthcare corridors and back-of-house. Pick one and hold it across every head on the run, since mixed CCT on a single track is the most visible install mistake.
4) Does the WAC Impulse LED810 track head come in 90 CRI for retail and gallery work?
Both 80 and 90 CRI versions are built. Order the 90 CRI where color rendering is part of the job, apparel, food, artwork, paint and finish showrooms. The 80 CRI is fine for circulation, storage and general office. Specify it up front, since the LED module is integrated and CRI cannot be changed later by swapping a lamp.
5) Can the WAC LED810 Impulse be used outdoors or in a covered patio?
No. The Impulse head is rated for dry locations and interior use only, so it stays out of covered walkways, patios, canopies and bath or pool enclosures where a damp rating is required. For those areas specify a damp or wet rated head instead.
6) Will the WAC Impulse LED810 work on my existing dimmer?
The Impulse head is dimmable, but it runs off an integrated LED driver, so it needs an LED-rated dimmer rather than an old incandescent-style rheostat. On a track run, control is at the circuit, so every head on that circuit dims together and all of them should be the same CRI and color temperature or the dimming will look uneven.
7) What happens when the LED burns out on a WAC LED810 Impulse head?
There is no lamp to change. The Impulse uses one integrated LED module rated at 60,000 hours, supplied with the fixture. For an MRO or facilities buyer that means no relamping cycle in the maintenance plan, but it also means the head itself is the replacement unit at end of life. Run at 12 hours a day, 60,000 hours is roughly 13 years.
8) Does the WAC LED810 Impulse track head meet California Title 24?
No. The Impulse head is not Title 24 compliant and is not Energy Star listed. On a California project with Title 24 lighting requirements, specify a compliant head instead of trying to make this one work through the controls package.
9) What finishes does the WAC LED810 Impulse head come in, and which one disappears on a ceiling?
Three finishes: black, white and dark bronze. White is what you use on a white ceiling when the client wants the hardware to recede; black and dark bronze are the choice for exposed structure, dark ceilings, and galleries where you want the head to read as deliberate equipment rather than blend. The finish is on an aluminum body.
10) Can the WAC Impulse LED810 head be aimed up as well as down?
Yes, the Impulse head is reversible mounting, so it can be turned to uplight a coffer, a beam, or a wall wash from below rather than only aiming down from the track. That flexibility is what lets one head type cover both accent and grazing applications on the same run.
