1) Will the WAC Lighting LED820 Impulse track head fit standard H-style or L-style track?
No. The LED820 Impulse head is built for J track, so it only drops into J-style (Juno-pattern) track sections and connectors. If the run already in the ceiling is H-style (Halo) or L-style (Lightolier), this head will not seat in it and you need the matching J track or a compatible adapter instead.
2) Is the LED820 track head low voltage, and do I need a separate transformer?
It runs off a 120V track feed and handles the low voltage step-down on board, so no remote transformer or separate driver is part of the install. The head is a low voltage LED type but it is fed by standard 120V line-voltage J track.
3) Can I use the WAC Impulse LED820 outdoors or on a covered porch?
No. The Impulse head is rated dry location and interior only, so it should not go on a porch, a soffit, a bathroom shower zone, or anywhere else that sees moisture. For covered exterior or damp areas you need a damp- or wet-rated track head.
4) Which beam spread should I order on the LED820 for retail accent lighting versus general wash?
Two beam options are made: 20 degree and 40 degree. The 20 degree is the tighter spot for punching light onto artwork, merchandise, or a display case from a high ceiling. The 40 degree is the flood, better for washing a wall or covering a broader area of shelving with fewer heads. The head puts out 1210 lumens at 23 watts either way.
5) What do I have to specify when ordering the WAC LED820 Impulse head?
Four choices go on the order: beam spread (20 or 40 degree), CRI (85 or 90), color temperature (2700K, 3000K, 3500K or 4000K), and finish (Black, Dark Bronze or White). Color temperature is set at the factory on this head, so pick it at order time rather than planning to change it later.
6) Does ordering LED820 heads get me a working track run, or do I need more parts?
Heads only. The LED820 is not a complete system, so the J track sections, feed or canopy connector, end caps, joiners, and any mounting hardware are separate line items. Size the track run and the circuit first, then count heads against it at 23 watts each.
7) Do I need a 90 CRI version of the LED820, or will 85 do?
Standard build is 85 CRI, which is fine for corridors, offices, lobbies, and general accent work. Step up to the 90 CRI option where color accuracy is being judged: apparel and cosmetics retail, gallery and artwork lighting, showrooms, and food display. Both CRI levels are available across the 2700K through 4000K range.
8) Can the lamp be replaced in the WAC LED820, or is the whole head disposable?
The LED source is integrated, not a socketed lamp. There is no bulb base to relamp, so when the module reaches end of life the head is replaced. Rated life is 60,000 hours, which on a 12-hour retail day runs well past a decade.
9) How much does the LED820 track head hang down below the ceiling and how much clearance does it need?
The Impulse head measures 7.88 inches in height, 4.38 inches in length, and 3.88 inches in width and diameter. Allow for the head plus the track and any canopy or standoff when you are working under a low ceiling or aiming near a wall, since the head has to swing through its aiming arc without hitting the surface.
10) What color temperature should I pick for the LED820 in a hospitality versus office space?
Four are offered. 2700K reads warm and is the usual call for hotel lobbies, restaurants, and residential common areas. 3000K is the general-purpose warm white for retail and multi-family. 3500K is a neutral that suits offices and mixed-use lobbies. 4000K is the crispest and tends to go into commercial, healthcare, and back-of-house. Pick one temperature for the whole run so the heads do not read mismatched down the track.
11) Will the WAC Impulse heads match the finish on the track I already have?
Three finishes are built: Black, Dark Bronze, and White. For a clean look on a fleet of openings or a multi-unit rollout, match the head finish to the existing track extrusion, White track with White heads being the usual spec on painted drywall ceilings and Black on exposed structure.
12) Is the body of the WAC LED820 metal or plastic?
Aluminum. That matters on a track head because the housing doubles as the heat sink for the LED module, and it holds up to repeated re-aiming better than a molded body in a space where displays get reset often.
