WAC Lighting MT-316HS – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can the WAC MT-316HS 3-light housing be installed in insulated ceilings?
No. The MT-316HS is a Non-IC housing, so it has to be kept clear of insulation. If the ceiling cavity is insulated, you need an IC-rated housing instead, or the insulation has to be held back from the fixture per code.
2) Does the WAC MT-316HS low voltage multiple spot housing need a separate remote transformer?
No separate transformer or remote driver box is required. The transformer is concealed inside the fixture, so the rough-in only needs a 120 VAC, 50/60Hz feed brought to the housing.
3) What kind of dimmer works with the WAC MT-316HS multiple spot housing?
It is an ELV (electronic low voltage) dimming fixture, dimming down to 10 percent of full output. Use an ELV-rated dimmer; standard incandescent/forward-phase or MLV dimmers are not the match for this fixture. Plan the control selection before rough-in so the wall box gets the right device.
4) How many light points does the WAC MT-316HS housing cover, and is it one fixture or three?
It is a single low voltage multiple-spot housing carrying three light points, ordered as one unit under MT-316HS. You wire one 120 VAC feed to it rather than running three separate rough-ins.
5) Is the WAC MT-316HS protected against short circuits and overload?
Yes. The housing has electronic short circuit and overload protection with automatic reset, so a fault shuts it down and it recovers on its own rather than requiring a trip to reset a fuse. It also uses a soft start to prolong lamp life, which helps in spaces where the lights are switched frequently.
6) What is the WAC MT-316HS made of, and what does the lens look like?
Aluminum hardware with a mouth blown etched glass diffuser. The etched glass softens the output of the spots, so it reads as a diffused accent rather than a hard beam, and the aluminum body handles the heat from the concealed transformer.
