1) Will the WAC TK-103LED track head fit my existing track, or do I have to match the track type?
You have to match the track. The TK-103LED is a 120V line voltage head and WAC builds it in H, J/J2, and L track adaptor versions, so you order according to the track layout you already have on the ceiling. An H-track head will not snap into a J or L extrusion. Check the maker and profile of the installed track before you pick the adaptor.
2) What dimmer do I use with the WAC TK-103LED, and will a standard Triac dimmer work?
Use an electronic low voltage (ELV) dimmer. The LED version dims smooth and continuous from 100 percent down to 10 percent on ELV. A Triac (forward phase) dimmer is only rated for the halogen GU10 version of the TK-103, not the LED, so putting the LED head on an existing Triac wall box is where people get flicker and drop-out. Swap the dimmer to ELV when you convert a track run to the LED heads.
3) What is the difference between the TK-103 and the TK-103LED?
The lamp. TK-103LED ships with an 8W LED GU10 pre-installed, delivering 470 lumens at 3000K with a 90 CRI and a 35 degree beam. The plain TK-103 comes with a 50W halogen GU10. Same housing, same adaptor, same aiming. Since the GU10 base is common to both, a halogen head can be relamped to LED later, but the dimmer needs to be ELV for the LED.
4) Can I put the WAC TK-103LED track head in a covered exterior walkway or a bathroom?
No. It is UL and cUL Listed for dry locations only, indoor use. A covered exterior soffit, a shower area, or anywhere subject to condensation needs a damp or wet rated fixture instead.
5) Do I need a transformer for the TK-103LED track head?
No transformer. The whole point of the TK-103 is the MR16 look on a line voltage feed: it runs straight off 120V, 50/60Hz track with a GU10 base lamp instead of a bi-pin low voltage lamp, so there is no remote or integral transformer to find room for.
6) Is the WAC TK-103LED bright enough for retail display or gallery accent lighting?
For accent work, yes. Each head puts out 470 delivered lumens in a 35 degree beam at 3000K, with 90 CRI, which is the color rendering you want on merchandise, artwork, or food. It is an accent head, not ambient lighting, so space heads along the run for the coverage you need rather than expecting one to wash a room.
7) Does the WAC TK-103LED meet California Title 24?
Yes, the TK-103LED is listed as Title 24 compliant and CEC listed, which is what a California job needs for the lighting portion of the energy code. It is not Energy Star rated.
