WAC Lighting X-CP-BK – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What does the WAC Lighting X-CP J-Box cover actually do on an outdoor track run?
The X-CP is a cover plate for the X Track outdoor system that conceals a standard 4 inch junction box where the track gets its power. It hides the box and the wiring connection behind a coated stainless steel plate so the feed point on an exterior wall or soffit looks finished instead of exposed. It is a trim and protection piece, not a powered component.
2) Which X Track components does the X-CP cover mount with?
It is made to be used with the outdoor track Feed End or the L-Connector in the WAC X Track 12V collection. Those are the points where the run ties into a junction box, which is what the cover conceals. If your power feed enters somewhere other than a feed end or L-connector, this is not the finishing piece for it.
3) Can this J-Box cover be used on a 120V line-voltage track system?
No. The X-CP is part of WAC's 12V X Track outdoor system and is specified for that low-voltage collection. On a line-voltage track run you need the cover plate that matches that system, not this one.
4) Is the X-CP cover rated for rain and direct outdoor exposure?
Yes. It carries a Wet location rating and is IP66 rated, so it is approved for exterior walls, soffits, and facade runs that see direct rain. It is also ETL and cETL listed, which covers both US and Canadian jobs.
5) What finishes does the X-CP outdoor J-Box cover come in?
Two: black and white. Pick the one that matches the X Track run and the connectors you are installing, since the cover sits right at the feed point and is visible from the ground.
6) Does the X-CP cover fit a standard 4 inch round or square junction box?
It is designed to cover a standard 4 inch junction box, which is the common rough-in for a track feed. Set the box so the X Track feed end or L-connector lands centered on it and the plate trims out the opening.
7) Will stainless steel hold up on a coastal or high-humidity outdoor installation?
The cover is coated stainless steel, which is the reason WAC uses it here rather than painted steel: it resists corrosion under continuous outdoor exposure. Paired with the IP66 wet-location rating, it is built for exposed exterior mounting.
8) Is there a spec sheet or install guide for the WAC X-CP cover?
Yes, WAC publishes both an installation guide and a specification sheet for this cover. Worth pulling the install guide before rough-in so the junction box lands in the right spot relative to the feed end.
