1) What is the WAC DR18 downrod and what is it used for?
The DR18 is an 18 inch extension downrod for WAC Smart Fans. It drops the fan lower than the stock rod so the blades clear high or sloped ceilings and sit in the right air path. It is a fan accessory, not a fan, so it is ordered in addition to the fan itself.
2) Will a WAC DR18 downrod fit a ceiling fan from another manufacturer?
Treat it as a WAC-only part. The DR18 belongs to the WAC Fan Accessories line and is sized to WAC Smart Fans canopies, ball joints and wiring runs. Other brands use their own rod diameter and pin arrangement, so match the rod to the fan brand you are hanging.
3) What finishes does the WAC DR18 18 inch fan downrod come in?
Seven finishes: Brushed Aluminum (DR18-BA), Brushed Nickel (DR18-BN), Distressed Koa (DR18-DK), Matte Black (DR18-MB), Matte White (DR18-MW), Oil Rubbed Bronze (DR18-OB) and Satin Brass (DR18-SB). 4) I need a longer drop for a fan in a two story great room. Is an 18 inch downrod the only length?
The DR18 is the 18 inch length in WAC's downrod line. WAC publishes the same rod in other lengths under the same DR prefix with the length in the number, so for a taller room order the longer rod in the finish that matches your fan rather than stacking two rods together. Rods are not meant to be coupled end to end.
5) Does ordering the DR18 downrod get me everything I need, or is the fan's original rod required too?
The DR18 replaces the short rod that ships with the fan rather than adding to it. You reuse the fan's canopy, hanger ball and mounting bracket, and the fan's own wiring harness feeds through the new rod. If your run is long enough that the factory lead wire will not reach the canopy, plan on WAC's extended wiring for that fan.
6) I am specifying fans across a multi-family building. Can I standardize on one downrod finish?
Yes, if the fans are WAC Smart Fans. The DR18 is stocked in all seven finishes as separate part numbers, so you can order one finish in quantity, for example DR18-MB in Matte Black, across every unit and keep a single SKU on the shelf for spares.
