The QB8 is a flat wood bit that cuts an 11/16 inch hole and measures 6 inches overall. That 11/16 inch diameter is the common size electricians use for pulling NM cable through studs and joists, and the 6 inch length gives enough reach to bore a 2x4 or 2x6 framing member straight through from one face.

It's a flat (spade type) wood bit, not a self-feeding auger. Flat bits cut fast in softwood framing and clear easily, but they don't pull themselves into the wood the way an auger screw tip does, so you supply the feed pressure. If you're boring deep stacked plates or want the bit to self-feed on a long run of holes, an auger is the better choice; for everyday stud and joist drilling at 11/16 inch, the flat bit is what most electricians run.
