Metallics QB32 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Should I use a long flat wood bit or an auger bit for drilling through studs?
A flat bit like the QB32 clears chips slowly but cuts fast and cheap, and it tolerates hitting the odd nail better than a fine-threaded auger. An auger self-feeds and pulls a cleaner hole through thick or green lumber. For rough electrical rough-in through framing, the 16 inch flat bit is the common choice because the length reaches through doubled plates in one pass.
2) Is the Metallics QB32 for wood only, or can it cut metal studs?
Wood only. The QB32 is a wood boring bit, ground for lumber and sheet goods. For steel studs use a step bit or hole saw rated for metal; a spade bit will dull immediately on steel.
3) How many bits come in a Metallics QB32 pack?
One bit, supplied in a pouch. If you're stocking a van or outfitting a rough-in crew, order the quantity you need per truck rather than expecting a multi-pack.
