1) What size hole does the Metallics QB6 Quik-Bit drill, and how deep can it go?
The QB6 is a 9/16 inch flat wood boring bit with a 6 inch overall length. That 9/16 inch cut is the common size for pulling a few NM cable runs through studs and joists, and the 6 inch length covers doubled 2x material and nominal 2x6 bored face to face in one pass. Deeper than that you need a bit extension or a longer auger.
2) Can I use the QB6 flat bit to bore through studs for metal conduit or just for wire?
It's a wood bit, so it cuts lumber only, studs, plates, joists and blocking. It will not bore steel studs, metal plates or nail protection plates. For boring through metal framing you need a step bit or a hole saw rated for steel.
3) Is a 9/16 inch bore big enough for romex, or should I drill larger?
A 9/16 inch hole, which is what the QB6 cuts, takes a single 12/2 or 14/2 NM cable comfortably and will usually take two with some effort. If you're ganging three or more cables through one stud, step up to a larger diameter bit instead of forcing them through this hole.
4) Does the Metallics QB6 come as a single bit or in a set?
Single bit, one piece, supplied in a pouch. If you're stocking a service van you'd order multiples of the sizes you bore most rather than getting a graduated set in one package.
