Red Dot ALL-6 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What does the LL designation on a Red Dot ALL-6 conduit body mean, and which side does the opening face?
LL is a Form/Series A style body with the conduit run straight through and a single back outlet on the left side as you face the removable cover. Its mirror image is the LR, which takes the branch off to the right. If you need the branch to come out the back instead of the side, that is an LB. Getting the letter right matters because the Red Dot ALL-6 is a fixed-geometry die cast aluminum body, not a reversible one.
2) Will the Red Dot ALL-6 thread onto 2 inch EMT?
No. The ALL-6 is built for rigid and IMC conduit, so its hubs are tapered female NPT threads. EMT is unthreaded, so you would need either a threaded EMT connector adapted into the hub or a set-screw/compression style body made for EMT. For 2 inch rigid or 2 inch IMC the ALL-6 threads on directly.
3) Do I need to order a cover and gasket separately for the Red Dot ALL-6?
Plan on it. Series A conduit bodies in 2 inch are ordered as the body itself, and the cover plus the gasket are separate line items sized to the body's trade size. If the location is wet or damp, you want a gasketed cover; dry interior pulls often use a plain stamped cover. Order the cover to match a 2 inch Form/Series A body so the screw pattern lines up.
4) Is an aluminum conduit body OK on a 2 inch galvanized rigid run outdoors?
Die cast aluminum is the standard choice for exterior rigid runs and it threads to galvanized rigid without issue, which is how the ALL-6 is normally used. Where it gets questioned is in corrosive or wet concrete and masonry contact, or in chemically aggressive environments where aluminum is attacked; there a malleable iron or PVC-coated body is the better call. For ordinary outdoor commercial work on 2 inch rigid, aluminum is what is specified.
5) Can I use the ALL-6 as a pull point and make splices inside it?
It is a pull and direction-change fitting first. A conduit body of this type is used to turn a 2 inch rigid run or to give you a place to pull conductors, and splices are only permitted when the body is durably marked with its cubic inch volume by the manufacturer and that volume is adequate for the conductors. Check the casting marking on the ALL-6 before you plan splices in it; if it is unmarked, pull through and splice in a box.
6) What part number do I order for a 2 inch Red Dot LL body?
ALL-6 is the number. That single catalog number covers the 2 inch rigid/IMC LL body in die cast aluminum. If your drawing calls for the opposite hand, you want the LR version rather than the ALL-6, and an LB if the branch leaves the back of the body.
