Viega lists the connection as P x MPT, so it presses onto 3/4 inch PEX tubing on one side and threads into a 1 inch female NPT port on the other. If you need press on both ends, this is not the fitting.
2) Does the 92545 press elbow work with PEX crimp rings or does it need a press tool?
It needs a press tool. PureFlow press fittings use a factory-installed sealing element and are joined with a Viega press jaw sized for 3/4 inch PureFlow, not a copper crimp ring or cinch clamp. A crimp-style 3/4 inch fitting will not substitute here, and crimp rings must not be used on a press fitting.

Material choice here is about the fitting body, not about system compatibility.
