American Standard 2989709.02 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the touchless flush still work if the batteries die?
Yes. There's a manual actuator button on the Cadet Touchless: push and hold it about two seconds and it flushes, so the fixture keeps working while batteries get swapped. The sensor runs on 3 AAA batteries and the control module on 4 AA, all included, with roughly one year of life at an average of 12 flushes per day.
2) Do I need to buy a seat separately for this American Standard Cadet Touchless toilet?
No, a slow-close, quick-release seat ships with it. The quick-release feature lets you pop the seat off the hinges for cleaning or replacement without tools, and slow-close eliminates lid slamming, which is one less callback in multi-family.
3) Is a chair height elongated bowl the right pick for a rental or an aging-in-place remodel?
Chair height raises the seat closer to a standard dining chair, which makes sitting and standing easier for older residents and anyone with mobility limits, and the elongated bowl gives more room than a round front. The Cadet Touchless pairs that with a skirted, smooth-sided body that hides the trapway, so there are no crevices behind the bowl to scrub. For property managers turning units or specifying senior housing, that combination is the usual reason to spend up from a standard-height round bowl.
4) How much water does the Cadet Touchless use per flush?
It's an ultra-low consumption fixture that uses 20 percent less water than a regular toilet, without dropping flush performance. For a facility standardizing on water-saving fixtures across many units, that's the spec that matters on the utility side.
5) What is EverClean on this toilet, and does it replace cleaning?
EverClean is a surface treatment baked into the china that inhibits growth of stain and odor causing bacteria, mold, and mildew on the surface. It slows staining between cleanings, it does not sanitize the fixture or replace a cleaning schedule. Combined with the concealed trapway, it's aimed at cutting the labor per restroom in hospitality and institutional buildings.
6) What colors does the Cadet Touchless elongated toilet come in, and what's the part number?
White only, ordered as American Standard model 2989709.02. If you're matching other fixtures in a building, that's the single finish to spec.
