American Standard 731150-400.020 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Is the American Standard Evolution pedestal leg the base only, or does it include the sink basin?
It is the pedestal column by itself. The Evolution pedestal leg, part 731150-400.020, is the vitreous china leg that supports the lavatory basin. The basin is a separate item and has to be ordered on its own if you are building a complete pedestal lavatory.
2) Does the Evolution pedestal leg come with the hardware to anchor it, or do I need to buy a mounting kit?
A mounting kit ships with it. For a punch-list replacement that means you are not chasing anchors separately, though the floor fasteners still have to suit whatever you are anchoring into, tile over slab versus wood subfloor.
3) Can I use this Evolution pedestal under a different brand's lavatory basin?
Treat it as an Evolution-series part. Pedestal legs are matched to a specific basin footprint and the underside mounting pocket of the china, so it is meant to pair with the American Standard Evolution lavatory it was built for. Mixing it under another series or another manufacturer's basin is not something to assume will seat correctly.
4) Can I just replace a cracked pedestal leg and keep the existing Evolution sink?
Yes, that is exactly what this part is for. The leg is sold on its own with its mounting kit, so a chipped or cracked column in a multi-family or hotel restroom can be swapped without pulling and replacing the basin. Confirm the existing basin is the Evolution series before ordering.
5) What color does the American Standard Evolution pedestal leg come in?
White only. The single orderable finish is white, sold as 731150-400.020, so if the existing basin in the restroom is bone or linen the pedestal will not match.
6) Does a pedestal leg hide the P-trap and supply lines?
That is the point of it. A vitreous china pedestal column conceals the trap and the stops behind the column face, which is why pedestal lavatories get specified in public and guest restrooms where exposed piping is not wanted. It is not an ADA solution though, since the column occupies the knee space a wall-hung lavatory leaves open.
7) Is vitreous china durable enough for a commercial restroom pedestal?
Vitreous china is the standard body for commercial lavatory ware. It is a glazed, non-porous ceramic that cleans with ordinary restroom chemicals and does not stain or absorb. What it does not tolerate is impact, so in high-abuse locations, a pedestal column takes cart and mop hits that a wall-hung fixture would not.
