Schlage L9095EUP 06A 626 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What happens to the Schlage L9095EU when the power drops?
On an EU (fail secure) setup, a switch or power failure locks both levers. Nobody gets through on the lever, either side, until power returns. Egress and re-entry after an outage are by key: the latchbolt retracts with a key from inside or outside, which is why this one ships as a double cylinder. If you need the opposite behavior, both levers unlocking on power loss, that is the EL side of the same lock, and the L9000 electrified locks are customer-selectable between EL and EU.
2) Can I use the Schlage L9095EU on a fire rated door?
The L9000 mortise locks are UL listed for 3-hour fire doors, and UL/cUL listed for A label single doors up to 4 by 10 feet and pairs up to 8 by 10 feet. The letter F and the UL symbol on the latch front are what an inspector looks for. Two exceptions in the family, the L9076 and L9077, are outside that listing. The electrified functions carry a UL19X listing for single-point locking applications, which is the relevant one for the L9095EU.
3) What voltage and current do I need to run this electrified mortise lock?
The L9095EU runs on 12 or 24 VDC and auto-detects which it is given, so one lock covers either supply on the job. Draw is 400mA, and that is the number to size your power supply and figure your wire run against when you are putting several openings on one supply.
4) Do I have to order the Schlage L9095EU handed?
No. The lock is field reversible, so one part number covers left and right hand openings and you set it at install. The one place handing does come into it is trim: the 12 lever is ordered specifically as left hand or right hand, while the other lever designs (01, 02, 03, 05, 06, 07, 17 and Omega) are not called out by hand.
5) Will this Schlage mortise lock work with the strike already in my frame?
The L9095EU comes with a 10-072 square corner strike, 1-1/4 x 4-7/8 inches with a 1-3/16 inch lip length, and a box. The latch is a 3/4 inch stainless steel latchbolt with an anti-friction tongue, and an auxiliary latch deadlocks it once the door is closed. If your frame is already prepped for a 1-1/4 x 4-7/8 square corner strike, which is the common ANSI mortise frame prep, the supplied strike drops straight in. Radius corner frames or a different lip projection mean specifying a different strike.
6) What cylinders and keyway does the Schlage L9095EU come with, and can I key it into my existing system?
Standard is two conventional 6-pin cylinders in the S123 keyway, and the ordering options run a Schlage C keyway conventional 6-pin cylinder or less cylinder if you are supplying your own or using a house core. Keying is orderable keyed different or keyed alike across multiple locks, and there is a field for special cylinder or keying requirements when the opening has to land in an existing master system. If you want a high security cylinder, the L Series takes a UL437 listed Primus 20-500 Series cylinder as an option. One thing to plan around for MRO standardization: with interchangeable core cylinders the assembly is rated Grade 2 security, while a concealed shell cylinder keeps it at A156.13 Grade 1 operational and security.
7) Is this Schlage lock Grade 1, and does it meet ADA?
Tested and certified under ANSI/BHMA A156.13 Grade 1 for both security and operational, and the L9000 is stated to exceed those Grade 1 standards. It also carries ANSI/ASTM F476-76 Grade 40 with UL listing, meets ADA requirements, and meets the Buy American Act, which matters on federal and public work. Levers with a return to door of 1/2 inch (64 mm) or less comply with the California Referenced Standards Code. There are also Miami-Dade NOAs and Florida Building Commission listings on the series.
8) I need an electrified mortise lock that stays locked outside but always lets people out. Is the L9095EU right?
No, not as an EU. The L9095EU controls both levers together, so when it is unpowered both sides lock and the only way through either way is a key. For an opening where the inside lever must always give free egress and only the outside is controlled, a storeroom-function electrified mortise is the correct part: the Command Access LPM190-M-EU-CH, a 24V motorized mortise lock with electric unlock and optional REX, the Command Access ML1080LB heavy-duty storeroom chassis, or the DynaLock EML-1 Series are all storeroom function. Check your local egress code for the opening before you commit either way.
9) What is the closest equivalent to a Schlage L9095EU electrified mortise lock from another manufacturer?
The Schlage L9095EU is a Grade 1 electrified mortise lock that continuously locks or unlocks both levers with 12 or 24V DC, with a key on either side able to retract the latchbolt. The closest peer in function and voltage is the Command Access LPM190-M-EU-CH, a 24V motorized mortise lock with electric unlock and optional REX. The SDC Selectric 7800 PRO is a solenoid controlled mortise lock with a vandal resistant clutch, so the electrical actuation differs from the Schlage's motor-driven design. Both SDC options are built for 1-3/4 inch doors, the same door thickness the L9095EU is prepped for.
10) I need a Grade 1 electrified mortise lock but not a double cylinder one. What else works?
The Schlage L9095EU is a double cylinder function, keyed on both sides, so the key overrides the electrical state from either face of the door. If a keyed-both-sides override is more than the opening needs, the SDC 7600 Series is a Grade 1 motorized latch retraction mortise lockset with 24VDC control for 1-3/4 inch doors, and the Command Access LPM190-M-EU-CH is a storeroom function motorized mortise lock with electric unlock. Storeroom function keeps the outside lever locked with key access outside only, while the L9095EU is keyed on both sides.
11) Is an electrified latch retraction mortise lock the same thing as an electrified lever lock like the L9095EU?
They solve different problems. The Schlage L9095EU electrically locks or unlocks the levers themselves - the latchbolt stays projected and is retracted by turning a lever or a key. An electrified latch retraction unit such as the Command Access LPM110ECH Series or the SDC 7600 Series motorized latch retraction mortise lockset pulls the latchbolt back electrically, holding the opening in a push-pull state while energized. If the requirement is remote access control at the lever with the latch still doing its job, the L9095EU function is the one to match; latch retraction is the choice when the door must be held mechanically free.
12) My access control panel only supplies 24VDC. Which electrified mortise locks work with that?
The Schlage L9095EU auto detects 12V or 24V DC and draws 400mA, so a 24VDC panel supply suits it directly. Among peers on 24V, the Command Access LPM110ECH Series electrified latch retraction mortise lock runs on 24VDC operation, the LPM190-M-EU-CH is a 24V motorized mortise lock with electric unlock, and the SDC 7600 Series is a Grade 1 motorized latch retraction mortise lockset with 24VDC control. Motorized units and the L9095EU differ from solenoid designs such as the SDC 7800 PRO in how the lock is driven, which affects the current the panel must supply.
13) Should I use an electrified mortise lock like the L9095EU or an electric strike on this opening?
An electrified mortise lock controls the lever itself, so the L9095EU locks or unlocks both levers electrically at 12 or 24 VDC and the door leaf carries the intelligence. That means you are running power through the door via a hinge or door loop, and the frame keeps a plain 10-072 strike. An electric strike leaves a mechanical lock in the door and puts the release in the frame instead, which is the simpler retrofit when the door is already prepped and you do not want to wire the leaf. Choose the mortise lock when you want the lever secured on both sides under access control, credential monitoring options like RX, DPS and latchbolt monitor, and a single point of locking that carries the UL19X listing.
14) How is the Schlage L9095EU different from a motorized latch retraction mortise lock like the SDC 7600?
Two different jobs. The L9095EU controls the levers: energizing or de-energizing locks or unlocks both levers, and the latchbolt itself is only pulled back by a key or by turning an unlocked lever. The SDC 7600 Series is a motorized latch retraction mortise lockset running on 24VDC, which pulls the latch itself, and it is also Grade 1 and specified for 1-3/4 inch doors. Command Access has similar retraction chassis, the LPM110ECH Series at 24VDC. Latch retraction is what you want when the door has to swing free under an automatic operator or a push-button release; lever control is what you want when the door stays manually operated and you are just deciding who can turn the handle.
15) What do I have to specify when ordering the Schlage L9095EU?
Four decisions. Cylinder type: P for the conventional 6-pin Schlage C keyway cylinder, or L for less cylinder if you are supplying cores. Keying: keyed different, keyed alike across a group of locks, or none if you went less cylinder, plus a free text field for special keying into an existing system. Lever style from 01, 02, 03, 05, 06, 07, 17, Omega, or the 12 lever which is called out left or right hand. Rose or escutcheon: A or B wrought rose, N escutcheon, or L full face escutcheon. Then finish, from 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 609 antique brass, 612 satin bronze, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 622 matte black, 625 bright chrome, 626 satin chrome, 630 satin stainless, or 643E aged bronze.
16) Can I match this lock to the Von Duprin exit devices and other Schlage trim already in my building?
All L Series levers suite with Von Duprin exit devices, and with the related L Series products LE, LM9200, LM9300 and LT. That is the answer for a property manager or facility standardizing a floor: the same lever design and finish carries from the mortise locks to the exit device trim. Across the family Schlage offers 33 lever, two knob, five rose and three escutcheon designs in 14 finishes, and the L Series also suites keying across tubular, exit device and multipoint locks.
17) Can I tell from outside the door whether this lock is locked, and are there monitoring outputs for the access control panel?
The L Series offers an exclusive 180 degree visibility indicator, which is what gets specified when staff need to read lock status from down a corridor rather than pulling on the handle. For the panel side, the electrified L9000 locks offer RX (request to exit), DPS (door position switch), latchbolt monitor and deadbolt monitor. Those are ordered options, so call them out on the order rather than expecting them in the base lock.
18) Can I use a mortise lock chassis instead of a complete electrified mortise lock?
A chassis and a complete lockset are ordered differently. The Command Access ML1080LB is a heavy-duty storeroom function mortise lock chassis and the ML04EU is an institutional function electrified mortise lock chassis - a chassis is the lock body, with trim specified separately. The Schlage L9095EU is ordered as a complete assembly with lever style, rose or escutcheon design, and finish selected together, and it ships with a 3/4 inch stainless steel latch with anti-friction tongue and a 10-072 square corner strike. If the existing trim is staying on the door and only the lock body is being replaced, a chassis is the shape of that job; if the whole opening is being furnished, the L9095EU covers trim and strike in one line.
19) What electrified mortise lock should I use on a behavioral health or detention opening instead of a standard one?
For asylum, institution and utility openings, the Command Access ML04EU is an electrified mortise lock chassis built specifically for institutional function, where both sides are key controlled for a controlled population. The Schlage L9095EU is a double cylinder heavy duty commercial lock whose levers are electrically controlled at 12 or 24V DC with key override on both faces, and Schlage offers ligature resistant trim for behavioral health applications on the L Series. Which one fits comes down to whether the opening needs institutional function operation or electrically switched lever control.
20) Which electrified mortise lock holds up best on a high abuse door?
The Schlage L9095EU is a heavy duty Grade 1 lock with a CRS body with zinc dichromate plating and a security blocking hub that prevents picking by removing the levers. The SDC Selectric 7800 PRO adds a vandal resistant clutch to a solenoid controlled mortise lock, which lets the outside lever move freely under force rather than transmit it into the lock. Command Access ML1080LB and LPM110ECH are also heavy-duty rated chassis. For an abuse-prone opening, Schlage also offers Vandlgard free-wheeling outside trim on most L Series functions including electrified.
21) Does a competitor electrified mortise lock give me the same finish and lever choices as the Schlage L9095EU?
Lever and finish selection is where the Schlage L9095EU separates itself. It is ordered in finishes from 605 bright brass through 626 satin chrome, 630 satin stainless steel and 622 matte black, across lever styles including 01, 03, 06, 17 and Omega, on wrought rose, full face escutcheon or N escutcheon trim, and all L Series levers suite with Von Duprin exit devices. Peers such as the Command Access ML1080LB and ML04EU are supplied as lock chassis, so trim appearance is decided by whatever lever set is specified with them rather than by the lock itself.
22) Is the DynaLock EML-1 a drop-in replacement for a Schlage L9095EU?
They are not the same function. The DynaLock EML-1 Series is an electrified mortise lock in storeroom function, where the outside lever stays locked and a key on the outside gives entry. The Schlage L9095EU is a double cylinder lock whose inside and outside levers are both electrically controlled at 12 or 24V DC, with the latchbolt retracted by key from either side. Swapping one for the other changes how the inside of the door behaves and how the access control system drives the lock, so the function has to be confirmed against the door schedule before substituting.
23) Is the Schlage L9095EU heavy duty enough for a high traffic entrance?
It is a heavy duty commercial lock built on a CRS case with zinc dichromate plating, certified to ANSI/BHMA A156.13 Grade 1 for both security and operational, and the description states the L9000 exceeds those standards. The stainless steel latchbolt runs an anti-friction tongue, which is what keeps the latch working on a door under closer pressure or stack pressure. A security blocking hub prevents picking the lock by pulling the levers off.
24) Does Schlage offer a ligature resistant version of this lock trim for a behavioral health unit?
Yes. The L Series includes Gold Standard ligature resistant trim for behavioral health applications, with the HSLR high risk ligature resistant trim and the SL1/SK1 ligature resistant trim as documented options. Other trim options in the portfolio include tactile warning and anti-microbial coatings, and the Vandlgard free-wheeling outside trim, which is available on most functions including the electrified ones.
