Schlage L9495EUP 06A 626 RX – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What happens to the Schlage L9495EU when power is lost?
The L9495EU is the EU (electrically unlocking) version, so it is fail secure: power holds both levers unlocked, and when power drops the levers go back to locked. Key override is always there, since the deadbolt is thrown or retracted by key from either side. If you need the door to release on power failure, you want the EL configuration instead, and the L Series electrified locks are customer-selectable EL/EU.
2) Do I have to order the L9495EU handed, or can it be reversed in the field?
Handing is not something you have to specify. The lock is field reversible, so one lock covers left and right hand openings and you can set it on site when you see which way the door swings.
3) What does Request to Exit (RX) do on this Schlage electrified mortise lock?
RX is a switch inside the lock case that signals your access control panel whenever the lever is turned from the inside, so the system knows the exit was legitimate and does not log it as a forced door. On the L Series electrified locks RX sits alongside DPS, latchbolt monitor and deadbolt monitor as monitoring options, so if you also need door position or bolt status you can specify those on the same lock.
4) What voltage and current do I need to power the L9495EU?
It runs on 12 or 24VDC and auto detects which one it is given, so a single lock works off either supply. Budget 400mA per lock when you size the power supply and figure your voltage drop over the wire run.
5) Will the L9495EU latch into the strike that is already in my frame?
It ships with a 10-072 strike, 1-1/4 x 4-7/8 inch square corner with a box and a 1-3/16 inch lip, and the latch is a 3/4 inch stainless steel latch with an anti-friction tongue. If your existing frame has a standard 1-1/4 x 4-7/8 square corner ASA prep you are lining up with the included strike; a radius corner or a T-strike frame will need the strike changed or the prep modified.
6) Does the L9495EU come with cylinders, or do I order them separately for my keyway?
Both. There are two cylinder choices: P supplies conventional 6-pin cylinders in the C keyway, and L is less conventional cylinder so your locksmith can fit the building's own cores. The standard build is a double cylinder conventional 6-pin in the S123 keyway. It is a double cylinder function, so it takes two, one each side, and the deadbolt works from either key.
7) Is this Schlage mortise lock approved for a 3-hour fire door?
Yes. L Series locks are UL listed for 3-hour fire doors (the exceptions are the L9076 and L9077, not this function), and the electrified functions are UL19X listed for single-point locking. UL/cUL listing covers A label single doors to 4 x 10 feet and pairs to 8 x 10 feet, with the letter F and the UL symbol stamped on the latch front. It is also tested to ANSI/BHMA A156.13 Grade 1 security and operational and meets ADA requirements.
8) Is the SDC 7600 an equivalent to the Schlage L9495EU?
They are both Grade 1 electrified mortise locksets for 1-3/4 inch doors, but they work differently. The SDC 7600 is a motorized latch retraction lockset running on 24VDC control. The Schlage L9495EU auto-detects 12 or 24VDC and electrically locks or unlocks both levers, with a double cylinder deadbolt override and request to exit. If the access control design calls for the motor to pull the latch back, the 7600 matches that; if it calls for the levers to be energized unlocked with a keyed deadbolt, the L9495EU does.
9) Why choose a double cylinder deadbolt function instead of a plain electrified storeroom mortise lock?
The L9495EU adds a deadbolt on top of the electrified latch, keyed from both sides, and when the lock is energized and unlocked either lever retracts the deadbolt and the latch together so egress is never blocked. That suits an exterior or high value opening where you want a real deadbolt at night but still want the access control system running the door by day. If you only need credential control on the latch, a storeroom function electrified mortise like the Command Access ML1080LB or the DynaLock EML-1 is the simpler build with no deadbolt to manage.
10) What else could I use if I need a Grade 1 electrified mortise lock for a 1-3/4 inch door but not the deadbolt?
The SDC 7600 Series is a Grade 1 motorized latch retraction mortise lockset for 1-3/4 inch doors running on 24VDC, so it matches the door thickness and grade without the double cylinder deadbolt. SDC also offers the Selectric 7800 PRO, a solenoid controlled mortise lock with a vandal resistant clutch, also for 1-3/4 inch doors. For electric unlock on a storeroom function, Command Access has the LPM190-M-EU-CH at 24V. Note those are 24V only, where the Schlage takes 12 or 24VDC.
11) Can I match the lever design on this electrified lock to the rest of the doors in my building?
Yes, and that is the usual reason people standardize on the L Series. Levers come in eight designs (01, 02, 03, 05, 06, 07, 12 and 17) with four trim choices: A and B wrought rose, L full face escutcheon, and N escutcheon. Finishes run 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 609 antique brass, 612 satin bronze, 622 matte black, 625 bright chrome, 626 satin chrome, 630 satin stainless steel and 643E aged bronze. All L Series levers also suite with Von Duprin exit devices and with the LE, LM9200, LM9300 and LT products, so a stairwell with an exit device can carry the same lever as the office doors.
12) Does using interchangeable core cylinders change the security grade of an L9000 mortise lock?
It does. With interchangeable core cylinders the rating drops to Grade 2 security. With a concealed shell cylinder it holds A156.13 Grade 1 operational and security. If you want a UL437 listed cylinder, specify a Primus 20-500 Series. Worth settling before you order if the spec on the drawing calls for Grade 1 security at the cylinder.
13) I only need to retrofit the lock body in an existing mortise pocket - what is a simpler option than a full L9495EU lockset?
The Schlage L9495EU ships as a complete lockset with lever, rose or escutcheon, cylinder and trim, in a 4-7/16 by 6-1/16 by 1 inch mortise case. If the existing levers and trim are staying and only the electrified chassis is being changed, Command Access sells chassis-only units: the ML04EU institutional function chassis and the ML1080LB storeroom function chassis. Those are lock bodies intended to work behind trim already on the door.
14) What is the difference between the Schlage L9495EU and the Command Access LPM190-M-EU-CH?
The Command Access LPM190-M-EU-CH is a 24V motorized latch retraction mortise lock in storeroom function with electric unlock. The Schlage L9495EU is a double cylinder function with a deadbolt and runs on 12 or 24VDC at 400mA, electrically locking or unlocking both levers. The LPM190 gives you motorized latch retraction on a single voltage; the L9495EU gives you deadbolt security with key override from either side.
15) Will a Command Access LPM110ECH do the same job as a Schlage L9495EU?
Not the same job. The LPM110ECH is an electrified latch retraction mortise lock chassis running at 24VDC - it retracts the latch on command and is heavy-duty rated. The Schlage L9495EU is a Grade 1 lockset whose electrification locks or unlocks both levers at 12 or 24VDC, with a deadbolt operated by key from either side. Latch retraction and lever locking are different access control behaviors, so confirm which one the system was designed around before substituting.
16) For a behavioral health or detention opening, is the L9495EU the right electrified mortise lock?
The Schlage L9495EU is a double cylinder deadbolt function for commercial openings and is field reversible for either hand. For asylum, institution or utility function openings, the Command Access ML04EU is an electrified mortise lock chassis built specifically for that institutional function. Match the function code on the hardware schedule rather than the brand.
17) Which electrified mortise lock should I look at if the opening is abuse-prone and the lever gets forced?
The Schlage L9495EU is heavy duty with a security blocking hub and a Grade 1 rating, and Vandlgard free-wheeling outside trim is offered on most L Series functions including electrified. The SDC Selectric 7800 PRO is a solenoid controlled mortise lock with a vandal resistant clutch and fits the same 1-3/4 inch door thickness. Both address forced lever torque, one through free-wheeling trim and one through a clutch.
18) Is the L9495EU tough enough for a high traffic door, and what is the case made of?
It is a heavy duty commercial mortise lock. The case is cold rolled steel with zinc dichromate plating for corrosion resistance, and the lock exceeds ANSI/BHMA Grade 1 security and operational standards. Deadbolt functions carry an anti-saw pin in the bolt, and a security blocking hub stops picking attempts made by pulling the levers off.
19) Does this Schlage lock qualify for a federally funded project under Buy American?
The L Series meets BAA (Buy American Act) requirements, which is what government and institutional specs usually ask for. It also carries Miami-Dade NOAs and Florida Building Commission listings if the job is in a high velocity hurricane zone, and is tested to ANSI/ASTM F476-76 Grade 40.
20) Can I get a visual indicator or free-wheeling trim on an electrified L Series mortise lock?
Both are available. The 180 degree visibility indicator is an L Series option, and Vandlgard free-wheeling outside trim is offered on most functions including electrified, which is what you want on a door that gets levers yanked on. Other option lines include tactile warning, anti-microbial coatings, and the Gold Standard ligature resistant trim for behavioral health openings.
