1) What happens to the Schlage L9495EU when power is lost?
The L9495EU is the EU (electrically unlocked) version, so it is powered to stay unlocked. Drop the power and both levers go locked, which is fail secure behavior. Egress and entry then depend on the key: the deadbolt is thrown or retracted by key from outside or inside, and once unlocked, rotating either lever retracts the deadbolt and opens the door. Schlage's electrified L locks are customer-selectable between EL and EU.
2) What voltage and current draw does the Schlage L9495EU electrified mortise lock need?
It runs on 12 or 24VDC and auto-detects between the two, so a single lock works on either supply. Draw is 400mA, which is the figure to use when you size the power supply and the number of openings on a shared transformer.
3) Will the L9495EU fit my door, and does it need to be handed?
It is built for 1-3/4 inch doors, the standard commercial thickness, and the lock is field reversible so one unit covers either hand. The mortise pocket has to take a case measuring 4-7/16 x 6-1/16 x 1 inches. The one handing exception is trim: if you pick the 12 lever, you specify right hand or left hand when ordering.
4) Will the L9495EU latch into the strike that is already in my frame?
The latch is a 3/4 inch stainless steel latchbolt with an anti-friction tongue, and a separate deadbolt sits above it. It ships with the 10-072 strike, 1-1/4 x 4-7/8 inches, square corner, with a box and a 1-3/16 inch lip. If your frame is prepped for an ANSI 4-7/8 inch square corner strike you are fine; a radius corner or a T-strike prep needs the frame reworked or a different strike specified.
5) What cylinders does the Schlage L9495EU take, and can I key it into my existing system?
It is a double cylinder function, so it takes a cylinder on each side and the deadbolt is operated by key from either face. Standard is a conventional 6-pin cylinder in the S123 keyway. You can order it keyed different or keyed alike across multiple locks, or order it less cylinder (the L option) and fit your own cores to match an existing system. The P option supplies the conventional 6-pin C keyway cylinder.
6) Is the Schlage L9495EU approved for a fire-rated opening?
The L9000 mortise locks are UL listed for 3-hour fire doors, and UL/cUL listed for A label single doors up to 4' x 10' and pairs up to 8' x 10'. The letter F and the UL symbol on the latch front are what an inspector looks for. Electrified functions like this one are UL19X listed for single-point locking. Note that a deadbolt function on a fire door has to be coordinated with your life safety requirements for the opening.
7) Is the Schlage L9495EU Grade 1, and is it ADA compliant?
Tested and certified under ANSI/BHMA A156.13 Grade 1 for both security and operational, and rated heavy duty. It meets ADA requirements, and all levers with a return to door of 1/2 inch or less comply with the California Referenced Standards Code. It also meets the Buy American Act, which matters on federal and many state jobs. One caveat for spec writers: with interchangeable core cylinders the rating drops to Grade 2 security, while a concealed shell cylinder holds A156.13 Grade 1.
8) I need the lock to pull the latch back electrically for a card reader with auto operator. Is the L9495EU the right choice?
No. The L9495EU electrically locks and unlocks the levers; it does not retract the latchbolt on command. For motorized electric latch retraction on a mortise lock, look at the SDC 7600 Series Grade 1 motorized latch retraction lockset at 24VDC, or the Command Access LPM190-M-EU-CH 24V motorized latch retraction mortise lock with electric unlock. Both are built for that duty.
9) What is the closest alternative to the Schlage L9495EU if the opening only needs electric unlocking and no deadbolt?
The Schlage L9495EU is a double cylinder mortise lock whose deadbolt is thrown or retracted by key from either side, with both levers electrically locked or unlocked at 12 or 24V DC. If the opening does not need a deadbolt, the Command Access LPM190-M-EU-CH is a 24V motorized latch retraction mortise lock with electric unlock in a storeroom function, and the DynaLock EML-1 is an electrified mortise lock in storeroom function. 11) Can I get door position and request-to-exit signals out of this Schlage electrified mortise lock?
Yes. Schlage's electrified L Series locks offer RX (request to exit), DPS (door position switch), latchbolt monitor and deadbolt monitor as options, so the access control panel can see both the bolt state and whether the door is closed. 12) Will the levers on the L9495EU match the other Schlage and Von Duprin hardware in my building?
