TOTO TBN01101U#CP – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the TOTO TBN01101U shower valve come with a trim kit, or do I order that separately?
The valve body only. The TOTO three-way diverter valve with off is designed for the TOTO three-way diverter trim with off, ordered separately as TBV01102U for round trim or TBV02102U for square. Budget both lines on the job, or the rough-in goes in with nothing to operate it.
2) What size pipe connections does the TOTO diverter shower valve take?
1/2 inch NPT, threaded. Plan the rough-in for threaded 1/2 inch supply and outlet connections, using adapters if you are running copper or PEX to it.
3) Does the TOTO TBN01101U valve include service stops?
No. There are no integral service stops on this diverter valve, so install isolation valves upstream if you want to service the cartridge without shutting down the branch or the riser. In a multi-family or hotel setting that matters, because otherwise a single cartridge swap takes the stack down.
4) How many shower outlets can the TOTO three-way diverter valve feed?
Three independent outlets, with three positive shut-off positions so each outlet can be closed off completely rather than bleeding to another head. That suits a showerhead plus a handshower plus body sprays or a rain head on one control.
5) Is this TOTO valve a mixing valve, or do I still need a pressure balance or thermostatic valve?
It is a diverter valve, not a mixing valve. It routes already-mixed water between outlets. You still need a separate TOTO mixing valve ahead of it to set temperature, along with its own trim.
6) What is the difference between the TOTO TBN01101U, TBN01102U, TBN01103U and TBN01104U valves?
They differ by port count. TBN01101U and TBN01103U are four-port bodies, TBN01102U is three-port, and TBN01104U is two-port. Match the port count to how many outlets the shower actually has, then pick the matching trim.
7) Will the TOTO diverter valve pass California water efficiency requirements?
The valve meets California water efficiency CEC leakage regulations, which is the leakage criterion for shower valves sold into California. Specifiers on CA projects can carry it on that basis.
8) Besides three-way diverters, what other TOTO valve types are in this range?
Three configurations: three-way diverter, two-way diverter, and volume control. Use a two-way when you only need to alternate between a head and a handshower, a three-way when a third outlet like body sprays is in play, and a volume control when the only job is throttling flow to a single outlet.
9) What is the TOTO shower valve body made of, and how does it hold up in hard water?
Solid brass, corrosion resistant, with a ceramic disk cartridge doing the sealing. Ceramic disks handle grit and mineral-laden water better than rubber-seated designs, which is why they are the norm on commercial and hospitality shower work.
10) Does the finish of the TOTO valve body matter if it is buried in the wall?
The body is offered in brushed nickel, polished chrome and polished nickel. The valve sits in the wall, so the finish call is really about keeping the order matched to the trim you are running on the exposed side. Spec the same finish across body and trim and the line items stay clean for the whole bathroom package.
11) How much does the TOTO four-port diverter valve weigh?
About 2.7 lbs for the four-port TBN01101U body, and it measures 2.75 by 2.75. The two-port version runs lighter at 2.4 lbs. Useful when you are sizing bracing in the stud bay on a rough-in.
