1) How many workers can lock out a single ABUS STO80X hasp at once?
The ABUS STO80X steel lockout/tagout hasp takes six padlocks, so six people can each apply their own lock to one energy isolation point. The device stays locked until every last padlock is removed, which is the whole point of a group lockout: no one crew member can re-energize the equipment while another is still working on it. If you have more than six people on the isolation, you gang a second hasp through the first.
2) What is the difference between the ABUS STO801 and STO802 lockout hasps?
Jaw opening. The STO801 has a 1 inch opening diameter and the STO802 opens to 1-1/2 inches. Pick by what you are locking through: the 1 inch version handles standard valve handles, breaker lockout devices and smaller shackle points, while the 1-1/2 inch is for thicker handles, larger cable loops and fatter lockout device eyes. If your isolation points vary across a plant, standardizing on the 1-1/2 inch covers more of them.
3) What part number do I order for the ABUS 6-lock lockout hasp?
Two ABUS manufacturer numbers cover it. 93101 is the STO801 with the 1 inch opening, and 93201 is the STO802 with the 1-1/2 inch opening. Both are the same six-lock steel hasp; the number changes only with the jaw size. Facilities running a written lockout program usually spec one of the two so replacement stock stays interchangeable across every isolation point.
4) Is a steel lockout hasp the right choice, or should I use a nylon one?
Steel is the choice where the hasp takes abuse or someone may try to defeat it: heavy industrial plants, outdoor isolation points, contractor-heavy sites. Non-conductive nylon hasps are the alternative where the isolation point is electrical and you want dielectric material near live gear.
