The YA197 indicator kit is built for Yale 8800 Series mortise locks with sectional (rose) trim, and this version includes the cylinder prep for keyed functions. It is listed for use with the 8866 function. If your 8800 has escutcheon trim rather than sectional trim, this is not the right kit. The lock itself and the cylinder are not included.
2) Do I need to order two YA197 kits to get an indicator on both sides of the door?
Yes. Each kit covers one side only, and it ships as a single side indicator plate with mechanism, screw pack, plastic template, and instructions. For status visible from inside and outside, order two kits, one for each side.
3) Does handing matter when ordering the YA197, and can it be reversed in the field?
Handing is selectable, left or right, and the kit is field reversible. It ships set up right hand and the handing can be adjusted on site, so a wrong-handed order is not a return.
4) What indicator wording and colors can I get on the outside trim?
Six outside options: V10 Unlocked/Locked in green/red, V20 Vacant/Occupied in green/red, V30 icons only in green/red, V40 Unlocked/Locked in white/red, V50 Vacant/Occupied in white/red, and V60 icons only in white/red. Restrooms and privacy rooms usually take Vacant/Occupied; classrooms and meeting rooms usually take Unlocked/Locked. Icons only is the choice where you want no English text on the door.
5) Can I add a status indicator to existing Yale 8800 locks without replacing the locks?
That is exactly what the YA197 is for. It is a retrofit kit that adds the indicator to 8800 mortise locks already hung on the door, so a facility standardizing privacy indication across restrooms or patient rooms keeps the existing locks and cylinders and changes only the trim side.
6) What door thickness does the YA197 indicator kit fit?
Standard kits are for 1-3/4 inch (44mm) doors, which is the typical commercial door thickness. Kits for thicker doors are available on request.
7) Can I add engraving to the YA197 indicator kit?
Engraving is a required selection. Choose None, EMA for outside engraving reading "Lock" with an arrow, or EMB for inside engraving reading "Lock" with an arrow. The arrow engraving is useful on privacy doors where occupants need a prompt on which way to throw the lock.
