ACSI 3710 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will an ACSI 3700 Series mag lock work on an outswing door, or do I need a different model?
The Series 3700 is built for single doors or pairs, outswing or inswing. That covers most commercial openings without switching product families, though inswing applications normally need the appropriate mounting bracket kit for the swing.
2) What happens to an ACSI 3710 mag lock when the power goes out?
It unlocks. The 3700 Series is fail-safe, meaning the magnet only holds while it is energized, so a power loss or a fire alarm release drops the door open. That is what lets a mag lock conform with life-safety egress code, and it also means the opening has no mechanical security at all without power. If you need the door to stay locked on power loss, a mag lock is the wrong device type.
3) Can I power an ACSI 3700 Series mag lock from my existing 12V access control supply?
Yes. The lock runs on 12VDC drawing 500mA, or 24VDC drawing 250mA. Size your supply for that draw per door plus whatever else is on the circuit, and keep in mind surge and spike protection is already built into the lock.
4) Does the ACSI 3700 Series mag lock monitor whether the door is actually closed and locked?
A door position sensor is built in as standard, so your panel can see open versus closed. Magnetic bond sensing, which reports that the armature is actually pulled tight to the magnet, is a separate option you have to specify. A power LED is also optional. If your spec calls for bond monitoring, order it up front.
5) I am replacing a Locknetics 390+ mag lock - can I use the ACSI 3710?
The ACSI 3710 is a surface mounted fail safe mag lock with a built-in door position sensor and an optional magnetic bond sensor, so it can serve the same function, but it is not a hole for hole retrofit of the 390+. If you want to reuse the existing frame prep, the Schlage M390RFK is a direct retrofit for the Locknetics 390+, rated 1500 lbs holding force with door status monitor, magnetic bond sensor, and relock time delay.
6) What do I need to specify when ordering an ACSI 3700 Series magnetic lock?
Beyond the model (3710 or 3711), the decisions are: magnetic bond sensor, power LED, custom length housing if the header run needs it, the architectural finish, and glass door brackets if you are mounting to a glass door. Voltage is handled at the supply since the lock takes 12VDC or 24VDC.
7) Is a mag lock like the ACSI 3710 low maintenance compared to an electric strike?
There are no moving parts in the 3700 Series, so there is nothing to wear, bind, or adjust the way a strike keeper or a motor-driven lock does. The tradeoff is the fail-safe behavior: no power, no security. Electric strikes and electrified locksets can be ordered fail-secure and keep mechanical key override, which mag locks do not have.
8) Can I use an ACSI 3700 Series mag on a sliding door?
It is a surface-mounted mag for swinging doors, single or paired, inswing or outswing. Sliding openings need a different form factor, such as the Schlage Electronics 320M compact mortise sliding door electromagnetic lock rated at 1500 lbs holding force.
9) Is a shear lock or mortise mag lock the same thing as the ACSI 3710?
No. The ACSI 3710 and 3711 are surface mounted electromagnetic locks, so the magnet housing mounts to the frame face and the armature to the door face. A shear lock such as the ROFU 8031-002, rated 2200 lb holding force at 12/24VDC and monitored, and a concealed unit such as the Schlage 320M compact mortise sliding door electromagnetic lock rated 1500 lb, mount inside or into the door and frame and need different prep entirely. They are not drop in substitutes for a surface mag lock.
10) The header above my door is longer than a standard mag lock housing. Can the ACSI 3700 Series be matched to it?
Custom length housings are an available option on the 3700 Series, so the lock body can be built to suit a non-standard header run or an architectural detail. Architectural finishes are offered as well if the mag has to blend with the rest of the frame hardware.
11) Is the ACSI 3710 a battery operated lock?
No, it is a hardwired electronic device. There is no battery option, so every opening needs a power run from a DC supply at 12V or 24V. Budget for the power supply, transfer hinge or door loop, and release devices as part of the same job.
