DynaLock 3000 Series 1500 Lb. Electro Magnetic Locks

Model 3001

3001 Double Outswinging Door
Single coil with double (split) armature. Mounts to the underside of the frame header. Recommended for traffic control only. 750 Lbs. holding force per leaf

The 3000 Series is a full size 1500 lbs. holding force electromagnet. It is designed for life safety and high security on rated or nonrated doors and frames. Specify for commercial, industrial, or institutional openings where maximum security and durability is required. All 3000 Series locks are designed for ease of installation with DynaLock’s exclusive FasTrak mounting system, field selectable voltage, and convenient wiring compartments. Optional integrated door and lock status sensors allow remote monitoring without the need to install separate “door contacts”. The 3000 Series is offered in single, double, and split armature models for both outswinging and inswinging doors. The coil and housing assembly mounts rigidly to the door frame while the armature mounts to the door in a manner that allows it to pivot slightly to compensate for door irregularities. When the door is closed and the lock is energized the armature is magnetically bonded to the lock face, thus securing the door without utilizing any moving parts.

Standard Features

• One Piece Housing made from high strength aluminum. A seamless housing means maximum resistance to weather and tampering.
• FasTrack Mounting: Speed up installation by mounting the FasTrak channel to the frame first. Lock can then be attached and removed with ease.
• Universal Design: Lock handing can easily be reversed in the field, allowing placement of the coil adjacent to the vertical jamb where it will exert the most efficient force.
• Low power consumption conserves energy, reduces operation cost, and extends battery backup time.
• A totally plated coil and armature provides protection against corrosion.
• A narrow backset of 1-1/2” may mean the elimination of other mounting brackets or filler plates.
• No residual magnetism - the door releases without delay when lock is de-energized.
• Built-in spike suppression protects other solid state components within the system from damage when the lock is de-energized.
• Lifetime Warranty - American Made in the USA by DynaLock, with over 20 years experience in the manufacture of electromagnetic locks.

DynaLock 3001 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the DynaLock 3001 mag lock secure a pair of outswinging doors without a mullion?
That's exactly what the 3001 is built for. It's a single coil with a double (split) armature: one magnet body mounts to the underside of the frame header and each door leaf gets its own armature, so a pair of outswinging doors is held with no center mullion. Holding force works out to 750 lbs per leaf, 1500 lbs total across the opening. Note the description calls it a traffic control application rather than maximum-security holding on each leaf, so on a high-security pair you'd want a full 1500 lb magnet on each door instead.
2) Does the DynaLock 3001 work on inswinging doors?
No. The 3001 is the outswing model, mounted to the underside of the frame header with the armatures on the door faces. For an inswinging opening you need a different 3000 Series configuration, since the series is offered in single, double, and split armature models for both outswinging and inswinging doors. Ordering a 3001 for an inswing door means the magnet lands on the wrong side of the stop and won't bond.
3) What power supply do I need for a DynaLock 3001, and how much current does it pull?
It's auto-sensing multi-voltage, 12 or 24 VAC/VDC, so one lock covers either supply and there's no jumper to set wrong. Current draw on the double (split armature) configuration is 748 mA at 12VDC or 420 mA at 24VDC. Size your supply and your battery backup off those figures, and running it at 24V roughly halves the draw if you're loading several openings onto one panel.
4) What is the low power coil option on the DynaLock 3001 and when should I order it?
The low power coil is an order-time choice, yes or no, and it runs 12V only at .16 Amps. Pick it when you're on battery backup or stacking a lot of openings on a limited supply, because it cuts the draw well under the standard 374 mA per magnet at 12VDC. The tradeoff is you lose the dual-voltage flexibility, the low power coil is 12V only, so if your panel runs 24V don't order it.
5) Can I monitor a DynaLock 3001 without installing separate door contacts?
Yes, through the monitoring options, which is the main reason to spec them. DSM gives you a door status switch signalling closed or ajar. HSM adds the Dynastat force sensor on top of that, so you also see whether the magnetic bond is actually good. VOP bundles the door status switch, the Dynastat force sensor, and an anti-tamper switch that signals if someone pulls the wiring access cover. Order one of those and you skip running separate door contacts to the panel.
6) What magnetic lock should I use if the opening is a single door instead of a pair?
The DynaLock 3001 is configured for a double outswinging door, splitting 1500 lbs. of holding force across two leaves. For a single leaf, the Dorma EML310 is a single door electromagnetic lock rated 1500 lb., offered with a door position sensor as DOR-EML310 DP 628 or with bond alert added as DOR-EML310 BA DP 628. The Schlage Electronics M390RFK is another single door magnet at 1500 lbs. holding force, with door status monitor, magnetic bond sensor and relock time delay. Alarm Controls 1200 Series covers single magnetic locks as well.
7) I am replacing a Locknetics 390+ mag lock - is the DynaLock 3001 the right part?
For a straight retrofit of a Locknetics 390+, the Schlage Electronics M390RFK is the direct retrofit, rated 1500 lbs holding force with door status monitor, magnetic bond sensor and relock time delay, and it is a heavy duty device. The DynaLock 3001 is a 1500 lbs. magnet configured for a double outswinging door and mounted with DynaLock's FasTrak channel, with handing reversible in the field - a valid choice when the frame is being prepped fresh, but it does not land on the existing 390+ hole pattern.
8) What is the difference between the DynaLock 3001 and a delayed egress mag lock?
The DynaLock 3001 is a straight electromagnetic lock - energize the coil and the armature bonds, de-energize it and the door releases without delay, with no residual magnetism. It carries an adjustable relock time delay as standard, which governs how long the magnet stays off after a release signal, not how long a person is held at the door. The Alarm Controls 1200DE Series is a delayed egress magnetic lock for a single door, which is the product to specify when the code official is asking for a timed delay on egress. The two are not interchangeable on a delayed egress opening.
9) Do I need to specify handing when I order a DynaLock 3001?
No handing to specify. The 3000 Series is a universal design and the lock handing reverses in the field, which lets you place the coil next to the vertical jamb where the magnetic force works most efficiently. Worth doing on install rather than leaving it, coil position affects how hard the magnet pulls.
10) Does the DynaLock 3001 have a relock time delay, or do I need to order it separately?
Adjustable relock time delay is standard on every 3000 Series model, it used to be the TD option and is now built in. So you get the delay between the release signal and the magnet re-energizing without adding anything to the order.
11) Will a magnetic lock damage my access control panel when it releases?
Not the DynaLock 3000 Series. Built-in spike suppression handles the inductive kick when the coil de-energizes, which is what protects the solid state components elsewhere in the system. There's also no residual magnetism, so the door releases with no delay the instant power drops, which is the behavior you need on an egress or fire alarm tie-in.
12) Will the DynaLock 3001 still bond if my doors are slightly warped or out of alignment?
There's some tolerance built in. The coil and housing mount rigidly to the frame, but the armature mounts to the door in a way that lets it pivot slightly to compensate for door irregularities, so a leaf that sits a little proud or racked can still pull up flush against the magnet face. If you want confirmation the bond is actually holding on each leaf, spec the HSM or VOP option, both include the Dynastat force sensor that reports magnetic bond quality.
13) I need a monitored mag lock - how does the DynaLock 3001 compare to other monitored models?
The 3001 offers monitoring as options: DSM adds a door status switch signaling closed or ajar, HSM adds that switch plus a Dynastat force sensor indicating an efficient magnetic bond, and VOP adds both of those plus an anti-tamper switch signaling removal of the wiring access cover. Among monitored peers, the Schlage M390RFK includes a door status monitor and magnetic bond sensor with relock time delay, the Dorma EML310 BA DP carries bond alert and a door position sensor, the Dortronics 1000 Series includes an SPDT door position switch, and the ROFU 8031-002 is monitored. The anti-tamper cover switch in the VOP package is the signal the others do not describe.
14) Which mag locks run on the same 12/24 volt power supply as the DynaLock 3001?
The DynaLock 3001 is multi-voltage auto-sensing 12/24 VAC/VDC, drawing 748 mA at 12VDC and 420 mA at 24VDC in the double configuration, with a low power coil option that runs 12V only at .16 Amps. On the same nominal supply, the Dortronics 1000 Series is 12/24VDC field selectable, the Locknetics MG and WMG Series are both 12/24VDC, the ROFU 8512 is 12/24VDC, and the ROFU 8031-002 is 12/24VDC. Current draw still has to be totalled per opening before sizing the supply, since a double magnet pulls roughly twice a single.
15) What are the alternatives to the DynaLock 3001 for a fire rated opening?
The DynaLock 3000 Series is designed for life safety and high security on rated or nonrated doors and frames. Among comparable magnets, the Dorma EML310 and EML320 carry a fire rating and are electrically locked fail safe devices, meaning the magnet releases on loss of power. On any fire rated opening the release scheme, the fire alarm interface and the door closer all have to be confirmed against the door's label, whichever magnet is specified.
16) What mag lock works when there is not enough header depth for a full size magnet?
The DynaLock 3001 needs 1-1/2 inch of depth and 2-3/4 inch of height at the header, and its 1-1/2 inch backset may eliminate the need for other mounting brackets or filler plates. Where the header will not take a full size magnet, the Dortronics 1107 is a narrow 2 inch slim line single door mag lock at 600lbs, and the ROFU 8512 is a standard single magnet with selectable keyhole mount at 1200 LB on 12/24VDC. Both trade holding force or mounting style for a smaller footprint at the frame.
17) How does the FasTrak mounting on DynaLock 3000 Series magnets speed up an install?
You mount the FasTrak channel to the frame header first, then hang the lock on it. The magnet attaches and comes off without redoing the frame work, which matters when you're pulling a unit for service or wiring the opening in stages. The housing itself is one piece of high strength aluminum, seamless, and the coil and armature are fully plated for corrosion resistance. Wiring compartments are built into the housing.
