The 2268 Series is a full size 1200 lb. holding force electromagnet. It is designed for life safety and high security on rated or nonrated doors and frames. With a low 2” profile, the 2268 is perfect for opening heights of 7’ or less to facilitate code compliance on designated egress doors. The 2268 is field selectable for 12VDC or 24VDC. Specify the RC option for AC voltage operation. Surge suppression is built-in and 12” long color coded wire leads are provided for easy installation. Optional integrated door and lock status sensors allow remote monitoring without the need to install separate “door contacts”. The 2268 is offered in single, double, and split armature models for both outswinging and inswinging doors. The coil and housing assembly mounts rigidly to the door frame while the armature mounts to the door in a manner that allows it to pivot slightly to compensate for door irregularities. 1) Will the DynaLock 2268-15 work on a pair of outswinging doors?
That is exactly what the 2268-15 is built for. It uses a single coil with a double (split) armature, mounting to the underside of the frame header so one lock body covers both leaves of a double outswing opening. Holding force is 600 lbs per leaf, 1200 lbs total. DynaLock recommends this split-armature configuration for traffic control only, not for high-security holding on each leaf, so if you need full holding force on both leaves use a double (two-coil) 2268 model instead.
2) Does this DynaLock mag lock run on 12V or 24V, and what does it draw?
Field selectable for either 12VDC or 24VDC, so one unit covers both. Draw is 583 mA at 12VDC single / 1166 mA double, and 335 mA at 24VDC single / 670 mA double. If your power supply output is AC rather than DC, order the RC (rectifier bridge) option so the lock can run on 12/24 VAC.
3) What options do I have to specify when ordering the 2268-15?
Three option choices are built into the order: an anti-tamper switch, a pre-wired rectifier bridge for 12/24 VAC operation, and a relock time delay adjustable 1 to 60 seconds. Any combination of the three can be ordered, including none of them for the plain lock. Pick the rectifier if your supply is AC, the tamper switch if the housing needs monitoring, and the time delay if you want the magnet to stay released briefly after the door opens.

The 2268-15 is a surface mounted electromagnet with field selectable 12/24 VDC operation and an optional relock time delay of 1 to 60 seconds; the split armature version is recommended for traffic control. If the opening calls for a true delayed egress device on a single door, the Alarm Controls 1200DE Series is a delayed egress magnetic lock built for that purpose.
7) What looks like a substitute for the DynaLock 2268-15 but mounts differently?
The 2268-15 is a surface mounted electromagnet with the coil housing on the underside of the frame header and the armature on the door. Products that are also electromagnetic locks but mount another way include the Schlage 320M, a compact mortise electromagnetic lock for sliding doors rated 1500 lb holding force, the ROFU 8031-002 shear lock at 2200 lb, and the ROFU 8512, which uses a selectable keyhole mount. Those require different door and frame preparation than a surface mounted header magnet.
8) Do I have to order a handed version of this electromagnetic lock?
No handing to specify. The 2268 is non-handed, with a wiring connection area at each end of the lock body, so the same unit works regardless of which way the opening is set up.
9) Can I monitor door position without adding separate door contacts?
Yes, if you order the monitoring option. The 2268 offers integrated door and lock status sensors so a head-end panel can see door position and magnetic bond without a separate surface door contact being installed in the frame. The anti-tamper switch is a separate orderable option on top of that.

11) What else could I use instead of a DynaLock 2268 for a double door?
For a pair of doors, the Alarm Controls 1200D Series double magnetic lock and the Dorma EML320 (double door, 1500 lb) are both direct alternatives. The Dorma EML320 is fire rated and electrically locked / fail safe. If your opening is single-leaf instead, the Alarm Controls 1200 Series or Dorma EML310 with door position sensor cover that. Where the 2268 wins is head clearance: its 2 inch profile is aimed at openings 7 feet or under.
12) I need delayed egress on this door. Will the 2268-15 do it?
Delayed egress is not a function of the 2268-15. Its relock time delay option only holds off re-locking for 1 to 60 seconds after the door opens, which is not the same thing. For a code-recognized delayed egress magnet on a single door, the Alarm Controls 1200DE Series is the purpose-built unit.
13) Is a mag lock or a shear lock better for my double door?
