Dynalock 2268 Series Electromagnetic Lock Classic Low Profile 1200 Lb.

Model 2268-20/2268-TJ20

2268-20 Double Outswinging Door
Double coil. Mounts to the underside of the frame header.
1200 Lbs. holding force per leaf

2268TJ-20 Double Inswinging Door
Double coil. Mounts to the face of the frame header.
1200 Lbs. holding force per leaf

The 2268 Series is a full size 1200 lb. holding force electromagnet. It is designed for life safety and high security on rated or nonrated doors and frames. With a low 2” profile, the 2268 is perfect for opening heights of 7’ or less to facilitate code compliance on designated egress doors. The 2268 is field selectable for 12VDC or 24VDC. Specify the RC option for AC voltage operation. Surge suppression is built-in and 12” long color coded wire leads are provided for easy installation. Optional integrated door and lock status sensors allow remote monitoring without the need to install separate “door contacts”. The 2268 is offered in single, double, and split armature models for both outswinging and inswinging doors. The coil and housing assembly mounts rigidly to the door frame while the armature mounts to the door in a manner that allows it to pivot slightly to compensate for door irregularities. When the door is closed and the lock is energized the armature is magnetically

• Non-Handed - includes a convenient area for wiring connections on each end of the lock.
• Adjustable mounting base reduces installation time and insures proper alignment.
• Low power consumption conserves energy, reduces operation cost, and extends battery backup time.
• A totally plated coil and armature provides protection against corrosion.
• No residual magnetism - the lock releases without delay when de-energized.
• Multiple monitoring options increases the flexibility, security and compatibility of system equipment.
• Low profile provides maximum clearance for underheight door openings. The lowest profile of ANY full size electromagnetic lock.
• Built-in spike suppression protects other solid state components within the system from damage when the lock is de-energized

“Classic” low profile electromagnetic locks, surface mounted for single and double outswing or
inswing doors. Retrofits some existing locks.

DynaLock 2268-20 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) How much holding force does the DynaLock 2268-20 give on each door leaf?
1200 lbs per leaf. It is a double coil unit, so each leaf of the pair gets its own full 1200 lb magnet rather than splitting one magnet between two doors.
2) Do I have to order the DynaLock 2268-20 for 12 volts or 24 volts?
Neither, it is field selectable. The 2268-20 is set on site for 12VDC or 24VDC. Draw is 1166 mA at 12VDC and 670 mA at 24VDC for the double unit. If you are feeding it AC, add the pre-wired rectifier bridge option for 12/24 VAC operation.
3) Can I monitor door position and lock status without adding separate door contacts?
Yes, if you order the switches with the lock. The 2268-20 can be built with a door status switch and an anti-tamper switch, plus the Dynastat force sensor that reports actual magnetic bond. Those integrated sensors replace separately installed door contacts. All four of those options can be combined on one unit.
4) My pair of doors swings inward. Is the 2268-20 still correct?
The 2268-20 is the double outswinging door model and mounts to the underside of the frame header. For a pair of inswinging doors the DynaLock counterpart is the 2268TJ-20, which is also double coil at 1200 lbs. per leaf but mounts to the face of the frame header. Other double-door options to consider are the Alarm Controls 1200D Series and the Dorma EML320.
5) Does the DynaLock 2268-20 provide delayed egress?
No. The 2268-20 is a straight holding electromagnet with optional anti-tamper switch, door status switch, Dynastat force sensor and a 1 to 60 second relock time delay, which is a relock timer and not a delayed egress timer. If the code official is asking for delayed egress, the Alarm Controls 1200DE Series is a delayed egress magnetic lock for a single door.
6) What is the closest equivalent to the DynaLock 2268-20 double-door magnetic lock from another manufacturer?
The DynaLock 2268-20 is a surface mounted double-door electromagnetic lock rated at 1200 lbs. holding force per leaf on 12/24 VDC. The closest double-door counterparts are the Alarm Controls 1200D Series double magnetic lock and the Dorma EML320, which is a double-door electromagnetic lock rated 1500 lb. and described as electrically locked (fail safe). If the specification calls specifically for 1200 lb. per leaf, the 2268-20 matches that figure directly.
7) Does the 2268-20 mag lock need to be handed?
No handing to specify. The lock is non-handed and has a wiring connection area at each end, so the same unit works regardless of which side you run your feed from. The mounting base is adjustable, which is what gets the armature aligned on a pair that is not perfectly hung.
8) What do I need to order if I want the LED bond indicators on a DynaLock 2268?
The two bi-color LEDs are only available with the Dynastat force sensor, so that sensor has to be on the order as well. A relock time delay adjustable from 1 to 60 seconds is a separate selection you make at the same time.
9) Can this mag lock be used on a fire rated pair of doors?
The 2268 Series is designed for life safety and high security on rated or non-rated doors and frames. It is a fail safe magnet, so it drops the doors free on loss of power. Surge suppression is built in to protect the rest of the access control gear when the coil de-energizes, and there is no residual magnetism, so release is immediate.
10) What else could I use instead of the DynaLock 2268-20 on a double door?
Two straightforward alternatives we carry: the Alarm Controls 1200D Series double magnetic lock, and the Dorma EML320, a double door magnet rated at 1500 lb that is fail safe and carries a fire rating. The DynaLock stays worth specifying where head clearance is the constraint, since its 2 inch high housing is what makes it fit under a low header.
11) Can I swap a DynaLock 2268 onto an existing mag lock installation without redrilling the frame?
DynaLock states the Classic low profile 2268 retrofits some existing locks, but which ones depends on the hole pattern already in your header, so measure before committing. If you are specifically replacing a Locknetics 390+, the Schlage M390RFK is sold as a direct retrofit for that model at 1500 lb holding force.
12) Is the 2268-20 a surface mount lock, and does it need a power supply?
Surface mounted, with the coil housing fixed to the frame and the armature to the door on a slight pivot so it seats flat even if the door is a bit out of true. It is not battery operated, so it needs a dedicated 12 or 24 volt supply. Twelve inch color coded wire leads come with the lock for making the connections.
13) My drawing calls for a fire-rated electromagnetic lock on a pair of doors. How does the 2268-20 compare?
The 2268-20 is described as designed for life safety and high security on rated or nonrated doors and frames, and its 2 inch profile suits opening heights of 7 feet or less where header clearance is tight. Among double-door peers, the Dorma EML320 carries a fire rating and is electrically locked (fail safe). Confirm the assembly listing with the authority having jurisdiction either way.
14) I need bond sensing and door position monitoring built into the magnet. How does the 2268-20 compare to other monitored magnets?
The 2268-20 can be ordered with an anti-tamper switch, a door status switch and the Dynastat force sensor, so door and lock status report back without separate door contacts. Monitored peers include the Dorma EML310 BA DP with bond alert and door position sensor at 1500 lb., the Dortronics 1000 Series with an SPDT door position switch, the Locknetics MG Series in standard or monitored versions, and the ROFU 8031-002, which is monitored.
