DynaLock 2280 Series Electromagnetic locks

Model 2282/2282-TJ82

The new DynaLock 2280 Series joins our popular 2268 Series as an upscale, low profile 1,200 lb. holding force maglock. The 2280 features a reduced length, low profile seamless housing, milled from a solid aluminum billet. The one-piece housing offers superior resistance to moisture intrusion. An adjustable mounting plate offers staggered mounting screw holes to enhance mounted stability. Ease of wiring and selection of options is facilitated by a replaceable built-in circuit board. Incorporated in the overall design is a new high impact plastic armature housing. The housing includes concealed rare earth disc magnets at each end, when the optional door status feature is ordered.
This of the housing, when mounted. The housing fully captures the armature, . In addition, the housings incorporate foam pads to help of the armature engaging the lock face. Typical applications for the 2280 include commercial, industrial and institutional openings where maximum security and durability is required. With a low 2-1/16 profile, The 2280 is ideal for opening heights of 7'-0" or less , to facilitate code compliance on designated egress doors.

DynaLock 2282 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) How much current does a 1200 lb double maglock draw, and what size power supply do I need?
Draw for the double is 1166 mA at 12VDC or 670 mA at 24VDC (583 mA and 335 mA respectively per single lock). Running it at 24 volts nearly halves the current, which matters on long home runs or when several openings share one supply. Voltage is field selectable between 12 and 24, VDC or VAC, so you don't order voltage-specific.
2) What is the difference between the door status switch and the high security monitor on the DynaLock 2282?
Two different things. The door status monitor uses concealed rare earth disc magnets built into each end of the armature housing to report whether the door is physically closed. The high security monitor reports on the lock itself. You can order either, both, or neither. If you want the bi-color LEDs (two of them), they require the high security monitor or the voltage option, so LEDs are not a standalone add.
3) Does the DynaLock 2282 provide delayed egress?
The DynaLock 2282 is a holding maglock with an adjustable relock time delay standard on all models; that is a relock delay, not a delayed egress function. If the code official is requiring delayed egress on the opening, the Alarm Controls 1200DE Series is a delayed egress magnetic lock for a single door.
4) I am replacing a Locknetics 390+ maglock. Does the DynaLock 2282 drop in?
The DynaLock 2282 uses its own adjustable baseplate with staggered mounting screw holes, so it is a new layout rather than a retrofit of another maker's pattern. If a direct swap is what you need, the Schlage Electronics M390RFK is a direct retrofit for the Locknetics 390+, rated 1500 lbs with door status monitor, magnetic bond sensor and relock time delay.
5) Does the DynaLock 2282 have a built-in relock delay, or do I order that separately?
Adjustable relock time delay is standard on every model in the 2280 Series. It used to be the TD option on older DynaLock product, so if you are quoting from an old spec that calls out TD, you don't add it here. Spike suppression is also built in, which protects the access control board and other solid state gear on the same circuit.
6) How does the 2282 mount, and does it need a mounting bracket for a top jamb install?
Surface mount with an adjustable baseplate that has staggered screw holes for stability and to get the alignment right without shimming. The enhanced top jamb mount package includes a full length armature bracket with locking ribs so it can't slip, plus a lock mounting bracket with a concealed wire chase, which is the version referenced as 2282-TJ82.
7) Does a surface maglock like this work on a sliding door?
No. The 2282 is a surface mounted lock for swinging doors, inswing or outswing, single or double, with the lock on the head and the armature on the door. For a sliding leaf you need a lock built for it, such as the Schlage Electronics 320M compact mortise sliding door electromagnetic lock at 1500 lb holding force.
8) Will a shear lock or a mortise sliding door lock substitute for the DynaLock 2282?
No. The DynaLock 2282 is a surface mounted maglock that installs on the face of the frame with an adjustable baseplate and an armature on the door. The ROFU 8031-002 is a shear lock and the Schlage Electronics 320M is a compact mortise lock for sliding doors, both of which require concealed preparation in the frame or door rather than surface mounting, so neither drops into a 2282 footprint.
9) Is this maglock loud when the door closes?
Less than a bare steel armature. The 2280 armature uses a high impact plastic housing with foam pads built in to cushion the armature as it meets the lock face, which cuts the slam noise. The housing also fully captures the armature, which helps on residential-adjacent installs like hotel corridors and multi-family common doors where noise complaints matter.
10) Is the DynaLock 2282 suitable for a school or hospital corridor door, or is it a light duty lock?
It is a commercial-grade lock at 1200 lb holding force, and DynaLock lists commercial, industrial and institutional openings where maximum security and durability is required as the typical application. Compare that with a 500 lb unit like the Schlage M420, which is a single door lock at a much lower holding force and suits lighter interior use.
11) Can I add the LED or monitoring options to a DynaLock 2282 after it is installed?
Options are ordered with the lock. Wiring and option selection run through a built-in circuit board that is replaceable, which is what makes field changes practical, but the door status monitor puts concealed magnets inside the armature housing, so that one has to be specified up front. Decide on door status, high security monitor and the pair of bi-color LEDs before you order.
