DynaLock 2280 Series Electromagnetic locks

Model 2282/2282-TJ82

The new DynaLock 2280 Series joins our popular 2268 Series as an upscale, low profile 1,200 lb. holding force maglock. The 2280 features a reduced length, low profile seamless housing, milled from a solid aluminum billet. The one-piece housing offers superior resistance to moisture intrusion. An adjustable mounting plate offers staggered mounting screw holes to enhance mounted stability. Ease of wiring and selection of options is facilitated by a replaceable built-in circuit board. Incorporated in the overall design is a new high impact plastic armature housing. The housing includes concealed rare earth disc magnets at each end, when the optional door status feature is ordered.
This of the housing, when mounted. The housing fully captures the armature, . In addition, the housings incorporate foam pads to help of the armature engaging the lock face. Typical applications for the 2280 include commercial, industrial and institutional openings where maximum security and durability is required. With a low 2-1/16 profile, The 2280 is ideal for opening heights of 7'-0" or less , to facilitate code compliance on designated egress doors.

DynaLock 2282-TJ82 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the DynaLock 2282 run on 12 or 24 volts?
Both. Voltage is field selectable, 12 or 24 VDC/VAC, set on the built-in circuit board rather than by ordering a different part. Current draw on the double is 1166 mA at 12VDC and 670 mA at 24VDC, so size the power supply off whichever you select. Running it at 24V roughly halves the amperage, which matters when you are feeding several openings off one supply.
2) What do I have to specify when ordering the 2282-TJ82?
Two choices on the order: door status switch (DSM) and high security monitor, each yes or no, in any of the four combinations. Order DSM and the armature housings arrive with concealed rare earth disc magnets at each end to signal door position. Adjustable relock time delay, formerly the TD option, is standard on every model now, so there is nothing to add for that. Finish is separate, with eight architectural finishes offered.
3) What is the closest equivalent to the DynaLock 2282-TJ82 double door maglock from another brand?
The DynaLock 2282-TJ82 is a surface mounted double door electromagnetic lock rated at 1200 lbs holding force on 12/24 VDC. The nearest cross-brand equivalents by door count are the Alarm Controls 1200D Series double magnetic lock and the Dorma EML320, a double door electromagnetic lock rated 1500 lb. The EML320 is a fail safe electrically locked unit with a fire rating, so if the opening is a fire rated pair being held closed by the magnet, that is the one to price against.
4) Do I need the door status and monitor options, or is the plain version enough?
If the mag is just holding a door on a card reader with a request-to-exit, the plain version without either option does the job. Take the door status switch when your access control panel needs to know the leaf is physically closed, for forced-door or held-open alarms. Take the high security monitor when you have to prove the magnet is actually bonded to the armature, not just powered. On a pair, remember you are monitoring both leaves through one 25-1/2 inch housing.
5) Is this maglock suitable for a heavy traffic commercial or institutional entrance?
Yes. The 2280 Series is a commercial-rated product, and DynaLock names commercial, industrial and institutional openings needing maximum security and durability as the typical application. The housing is milled from a solid aluminum billet in one piece, which resists moisture intrusion and prying at the seams, and the built-in spike suppression keeps the coil from damaging other solid state boards on the system when it de-energizes.
6) What is different about the TJ82 version versus a standard surface mount maglock?
TJ82 is the top jamb mount package. Standard surface mounting puts the magnet on the frame face with the armature through-bolted to the door, which suits outswing openings. The top jamb arrangement mounts the lock body under the head with a bracket carrying a concealed wire chase, and uses a full length armature bracket with locking ribs to stop slippage, which is how you hold inswing leaves. Either way it is a surface mounted lock, no door prep beyond the armature bolts.
7) Does this maglock stay locked in a power failure?
No. An electromagnetic lock holds only while energized, so the 2282-TJ82 releases both leaves the moment power drops or the fire alarm cuts the circuit. That is fail safe behavior and it is why maglocks go on egress doors. It is not battery backed, so if you need the opening secure through an outage the power supply has to be on a battery or generator circuit.
8) What else does ZenSupply carry if I need a double door maglock with more than 1200 lb holding force?
The Dorma EML320 is the double-door option at 1500 lb, and Dormakaba lists it fire rated and electrically locked (fail safe). If the opening is exterior and exposed, look at the Alarm Controls 1200WP Series weather resistant mags or the Locknetics WMG Series weatherproof mags. For a single leaf instead of a pair, the Alarm Controls 1200 Series and the Locknetics MG Series both cover 1200 lb single door.
9) I am replacing a Locknetics 390+ maglock. Is the DynaLock 2282 the right swap?
For a direct drop-in on Locknetics 390+ holes, the Schlage Electronics M390RFK is the part listed as a direct retrofit, at 1500 lb with door status monitor, magnetic bond sensor and relock time delay. The DynaLock 2282-TJ82 is a new-hole installation, not a retrofit of that prep, though its adjustable baseplate gives you some latitude on placement. Note the 2282 is a double-door body at 25-1/2 inches, so it will not sit in a single-leaf footprint either way.
10) Can I use the DynaLock 2282-TJ82 on a fire rated pair of doors?
For a fire rated opening, look at the Dorma EML320 double door 1500 lb electromagnetic lock, which is listed with a fire rating and an electrically locked fail safe function; the single door Dorma EML310 carries the same fire rating and fail safe function. The DynaLock 2282-TJ82's own selling point is headroom - its 2-1/16 inch profile suits opening heights of 7 feet or less to facilitate code compliance on designated egress doors - so take the fire rating question to the Dorma units when the drawing calls one out.
11) I need door status and bond monitoring on a pair - how does the DynaLock 2282-TJ82 compare to monitored units from other brands?
The 2282-TJ82 is ordered with or without a door status switch and with or without a high security monitor, so you can specify both on one lock. Among comparables, the Dorma EML310 BA DP combines a bond alert with a door position sensor but is a single door 1500 lb unit, the Dorma EML310 DP carries the door position sensor alone, and the Locknetics MG Series is offered in standard or monitored form. The Schlage M390RFK adds a door status monitor, magnetic bond sensor and relock time delay at 1500 lbs and is a direct retrofit for the Locknetics 390+, which matters only if that is what is coming off the door.
12) Does the mounting method differ between the DynaLock 2282-TJ82 and the ROFU 8512?
Yes. The 2282-TJ82 is a surface mounted lock with an adjustable baseplate and, in the TJ82 configuration, an enhanced top jamb mount using a full length armature bracket with locking ribs and a concealed wire chase. The ROFU 8512 is a standard single magnet using a selectable keyhole mount at 1200 LB holding force on 12/24VDC - same holding force class and voltage range, but a single magnet with a different mounting approach, so the jamb prep and bracket kit do not carry over.
13) Does the mounting plate help if my frame is out of alignment?
It does. The 2280 uses an adjustable baseplate with staggered mounting screw holes, so you can shift the lock to line the face up with the armature instead of chasing it with shims. The staggered pattern also spreads the screws across more of the jamb for a steadier mount. On the armature side the plastic housing carries foam pads that soften the strike of the armature against the lock face and cut the bang on closing.
