The new DynaLock 2280 Series joins our popular 2268 Series as an upscale, low profile 1,200 lb. holding force maglock. The 2280 features a reduced length, low profile seamless housing, milled from a solid aluminum billet. The one-piece housing offers superior resistance to moisture intrusion. An adjustable mounting plate offers staggered mounting screw holes to enhance mounted stability. Ease of wiring and selection of options is facilitated by a replaceable built-in circuit board. Incorporated in the overall design is a new high impact plastic armature housing. The housing includes concealed rare earth disc magnets at each end, when the optional door status feature is ordered.

New “upscale” low profile electromagnetic locks, surface mounted for single and double
outswing or inswing doors. Seamless one-piece lock housings mount with an adjustable
baseplate for quicker installations. Armatures utilize high-impact plastic housings, with
incorporated foam pads to reduce noise. When ordered with DSM, concealed disc magnets
are included at each end of the armature housings.

DynaLock 2280-TJ80 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the DynaLock 2280-TJ80 work on an inswing door, or do I need a different mag lock?
The 2280-TJ80 is built for inswing openings. The TJ80 top jamb mount kit puts the lock body on a bracket at the head with a concealed wire chase, and the full length armature bracket carries locking ribs so it won't slip on the door. For a standard outswing door the lock mounts directly to the underside of the frame stop and the top jamb kit isn't needed, so order the plain 2280 configuration instead.
2) Does the 2280-TJ80 run on 12 volts or 24 volts?
Both. Voltage is field selectable, 12 or 24 VDC/VAC, so one part covers either bus. Budget power accordingly: a single lock draws 583 mA at 12VDC or 335 mA at 24VDC. Spike suppression is built in, which protects the rest of the solid state gear on the circuit when the magnet drops.
3) What is the difference between the Door Status Switch and High Security Monitor options on this DynaLock mag lock?
They report two different things and you can order either, both, or neither. Door Status Switch tells the panel whether the door leaf is actually closed; when DSM is specified, concealed rare earth disc magnets are included at each end of the armature housing to trigger it. The High Security Monitor reports the state of the lock itself, so you know the magnet is energized and bonded rather than just that the door is shut. Access control integrators tying into an alarm or head end usually want both.
4) I have a Locknetics 390+ maglock to replace. Is the DynaLock 2280 a drop-in?
Nothing in the 2280's data states retrofit compatibility with the Locknetics 390+ prep, and the 2280 mounts on its own adjustable baseplate. If you want the existing holes to line up, the Schlage Electronics M390RFK is listed as a direct retrofit for the Locknetics 390+, at 1500 lbs holding force with door status monitor, magnetic bond sensor and relock time delay.
5) I need more than 1200 lb of holding force than the DynaLock 2280-TJ80 provides. What are the options?
Stepping up, the Dorma EML310 is a single-door electromagnetic lock rated 1500 lb. and is available with a door position sensor, or with bond alert plus door position sensor. The Schlage M390RFK is a heavy duty 1500 lbs unit with door status monitor, magnetic bond sensor and relock time delay. The ROFU 8031-002 is a shear lock at 2200 LB holding force, 12/24VDC, monitored.
6) What replaces the DynaLock 2280-TJ80 on a sliding door or where delayed egress is required?
Neither application suits the 2280-TJ80, which is a surface-mounted inswing door maglock. For a sliding door, the Schlage 320M is a compact mortise sliding door electromagnetic lock with 1500 lbs holding force. For delayed egress on a single door, the Alarm Controls 1200DE Series is a delayed egress magnetic lock.
7) Is a relock time delay included or is it an extra option I have to specify?
Adjustable relock time delay is standard on every 2280, so there is nothing to add. It was formerly the TD option on older DynaLock models; if you are reading an old spec that calls for TD, the current lock already covers it.
8) Does this mag lock need mortising into the frame or can it be surface applied?
Surface mount. No mortise prep, no cutting the frame. The adjustable baseplate has staggered screw holes to improve mounted stability and lets you dial in armature alignment during install, which is where most of the callbacks on mag locks come from. If the job calls for a concealed lock in a sliding door instead, that is a mortise product such as the Schlage Electronics 320M.
9) For a fire rated opening, is the DynaLock 2280-TJ80 or a Dorma EML310 the right specification?
The Dorma EML310 single door lock carries a fire rating and is an electrically locked fail safe function at 1500 lb., available with door position sensor or with bond alert added. The DynaLock 2280-TJ80 is specified for commercial, industrial and institutional openings and its low 2-1/16 inch profile suits opening heights of 7 feet or less to help with code compliance on designated egress doors.
10) Will the armature bang and rattle every time the door closes?
The armature uses a high impact plastic housing with foam pads built in to cushion it as it meets the lock face, which cuts the metal-on-metal clack you get from a bare plate. That matters on hospital, hotel and school corridors where door noise generates complaints.
11) Can I get this DynaLock maglock to match the finishes on the rest of my door hardware?
