The 2268 Series is a full size 1200 lb. holding force electromagnet. It is designed for life safety and high security on rated or nonrated doors and frames. With a low 2” profile, the 2268 is perfect for opening heights of 7’ or less to facilitate code compliance on designated egress doors. The 2268 is field selectable for 12VDC or 24VDC. Specify the RC option for AC voltage operation. Surge suppression is built-in and 12” long color coded wire leads are provided for easy installation. Optional integrated door and lock status sensors allow remote monitoring without the need to install separate “door contacts”. The 2268 is offered in single, double, and split armature models for both outswinging and inswinging doors. The coil and housing assembly mounts rigidly to the door frame while the armature mounts to the door in a manner that allows it to pivot slightly to compensate for door irregularities. When the door is closed and the lock is energized the armature is magnetically

DynaLock 2268-TJ10 628 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Is the DynaLock 2268-TJ10 for an inswinging or outswinging door?
The 2268-TJ10 is the inswing version. It mounts to the face of the frame header, with the armature on the door. If your door swings out, you want the 2268-10 instead, which mounts to the underside of the header. Both are single-coil 1200 lb. magnets in the same 2268 family, but the mounting position is not interchangeable, so get the swing right before ordering.
2) Does the DynaLock 2268-TJ10 need 12V or 24V power, and can it run off AC?
It is field selectable between 12VDC and 24VDC, so one unit covers either supply. Current draw is 583 mA at 12VDC and 335 mA at 24VDC for the single-coil model. If your power source is AC, order it with the pre-wired rectifier bridge option for 12/24 VAC operation rather than adding an external rectifier.
3) What monitoring options can I add to the 2268-TJ10 mag lock?
Three sensing options can be ordered on the lock itself: a door status switch, an anti-tamper switch, and the Dynastat force sensor that reports actual magnetic bond. They can be combined in any mix, and a bi-color LED is available but only when the Dynastat force sensor is included. Built-in monitoring means you do not have to install separate door contacts for remote status.
4) I need more than 1200 lb of holding force on a single door - what should I use instead of the 2268-TJ10?
The 2268-TJ10 is rated 1200 lbs. holding force. For higher ratings on a single door, the Dorma EML310 is a single-door electromagnetic lock rated 1500 lb. and is fire rated, with electrically locked (fail safe) operation, available with a door position sensor or with bond alert plus door position sensor. The Schlage Electronics M390RFK is a heavy duty 1500 lbs holding force magnet with door status monitor, magnetic bond sensor and relock time delay, and is a direct retrofit for the Locknetics 390+. The ROFU 8031-002 shear lock reaches 2200 LB holding force at 12/24VDC, monitored.
5) Will the 2268-TJ10 work on a pair of doors, and what covers double openings?
The 2268-TJ10 is the single inswing configuration, a single coil unit mounting to the face of the frame header at 14 in. long. For a pair of doors, the Alarm Controls 1200D Series is a double magnetic lock and the Dorma EML320 is a double door electromagnetic lock rated 1500 lb., fire rated, electrically locked (fail safe).
6) I am replacing an older Locknetics 390 mag lock - is the DynaLock 2268-TJ10 a drop-in?
The 2268-TJ10 is a 1200 lb. surface mounted magnet with an adjustable mounting base and is described as retrofitting some existing locks, so existing hole patterns should be verified against the 14 in. housing. If a direct retrofit is the requirement, the Schlage Electronics M390RFK is stated as a direct retrofit for the Locknetics 390+, rated 1500 lbs holding force with door status monitor, magnetic bond sensor and relock time delay.
7) Do I need to order a handed mag lock for a left or right hand door?
No handing to specify. The 2268 is non-handed, with a wiring connection area at each end of the lock so the leads can come in from whichever side your conduit or frame raceway is on. Twelve inch color coded leads are supplied.
8) Can this magnetic lock go on a fire rated door frame?
The 2268 Series is designed for life safety and high security use on rated or nonrated doors and frames. Like all mag locks it is fail safe, releasing the moment power drops, and DynaLock states the coil has no residual magnetism so there is no delay on release.
9) Can the 2268 replace an existing surface mag lock without redrilling the frame?
DynaLock states the Classic 2268 retrofits some existing locks, and the mounting base is adjustable, which absorbs a certain amount of hole misalignment and helps set armature-to-magnet alignment on a used frame. Whether your specific old unit lines up depends on the hole pattern in your header, so measure before you pull the old lock.
10) What are my options if the 2268 does not suit the opening, like an exterior door or a pair of doors?
For a pair of doors you want a double-armature magnet such as the Alarm Controls 1200D Series or the Dorma EML320 for double doors. Outdoors or in a wet location, look at a weather resistant unit like the Alarm Controls 1200WP Series, the Locknetics WMG Series, or the Dortronics 1000 Series with sealed electronics. If code requires delayed egress rather than straight lock-and-release, the Alarm Controls 1200DE Series is the single-door delayed egress magnet. For a sliding door the Schlage 320M compact mortise magnet is the right family.
11) How does the DynaLock 2268 compare with other 1200 lb single door magnetic locks?
At 1200 lb. holding force and 12/24VDC it sits with the Locknetics MG Series 1200 lb. model and the ROFU 8512, which is also 1200 lb. at 12/24VDC on a selectable keyhole mount. The distinguishing feature of the 2268 is the 2 inch high housing for low-clearance headers. If you need more pull, the Dorma EML310 and Schlage M390RFK are rated 1500 lb.; the Schlage M420 is a lighter 500 lb. single door magnet.
12) Will a mag lock hold on a door that is slightly warped or out of plane?
The 2268 is built for that. The coil and housing bolt rigidly to the frame, while the armature mounts to the door in a way that lets it pivot slightly to take up door irregularities, so the face still makes full contact with the magnet. The adjustable mounting base also helps dial in alignment during install.
13) Is there a lighter or slimmer mag lock than the DynaLock 2268-TJ10 for a low-traffic interior door?
The 2268-TJ10 is a full size 1200 lb. magnet with a 2 in. high housing measuring 1-5/8 in. D x 2 in. H x 14 in. L. For lower force needs, the Dortronics 1107 is a narrow 2 in. slim line single door mag lock rated 600lbs, and the Schlage M420 of the M400 Series is a single door electromagnetic lock rated 500 lbs holding force. The Locknetics MG Series is also offered in a 600lb model at 12/24VDC.
14) Is a shear lock or mortise mag lock the same thing as the 2268-TJ10?
No. The 2268-TJ10 is surface mounted, with the coil and housing fixed to the frame header and the armature on the door, at 1-5/8 in. D x 2 in. H x 14 in. L. A shear lock such as the ROFU 8031-002 is a different installation type rated 2200 LB holding force at 12/24VDC, monitored, and the Schlage Electronics 320M is a compact mortise lock for sliding doors at 1500 lbs holding force. Those two conceal into the frame or suit sliding leaves rather than surface mounting to an inswing header.
15) Does the fire door on my egress path need a fire rated mag lock instead of the 2268-TJ10?
The 2268-TJ10 is designed for life safety and high security on rated or nonrated doors and frames, with no residual magnetism so it releases without delay when de-energized. If your submittal requires the magnet itself to carry a fire rating in the product data, the Dorma EML310 single door and EML320 double door magnets are listed as fire rated and electrically locked (fail safe) at 1500 lb.
16) Do I need surge protection between the mag lock and my access control board?
Not separately. Spike suppression is built into the 2268, which protects the solid state components in the rest of the access control system when the magnet is de-energized. That is one less discrete diode to add at the power supply.
17) Is this mag lock suitable for commercial buildings on battery backup?
It is a commercial-grade electromagnetic lock, not battery operated, so it runs off your access control power supply. Draw is low, 335 mA at 24VDC for the single coil, which extends run time when the supply is on battery backup during an outage.
