The 2268 Series is a full size 1200 lb. holding force electromagnet. It is designed for life safety and high security on rated or nonrated doors and frames. With a low 2” profile, the 2268 is perfect for opening heights of 7’ or less to facilitate code compliance on designated egress doors. The 2268 is field selectable for 12VDC or 24VDC. Specify the RC option for AC voltage operation. Surge suppression is built-in and 12” long color coded wire leads are provided for easy installation. Optional integrated door and lock status sensors allow remote monitoring without the need to install separate “door contacts”. The 2268 is offered in single, double, and split armature models for both outswinging and inswinging doors. The coil and housing assembly mounts rigidly to the door frame while the armature mounts to the door in a manner that allows it to pivot slightly to compensate for door irregularities. 1) What is the difference between the DynaLock 2268-20 and the 2268-TJ20 mag lock?
Swing direction decides it. The 2268-20 is for double outswinging doors and mounts to the underside of the frame header. The 2268-TJ20 is for double inswinging doors and mounts to the face of the frame header instead. Both are double-coil units giving 1200 lbs of holding force per leaf, so pick by which way the pair of doors swings, not by force.
2) Is the DynaLock 2268 12 volt or 24 volt, and can it run off AC?
It is field selectable for 12VDC or 24VDC, so one unit covers either bus. For AC operation you order the pre-wired rectifier bridge option (RC), which is a yes/no choice when configuring the lock and handles 12/24 VAC input. Surge suppression is built in either way.
3) How much current does a double 2268 mag lock draw for power supply sizing?
Sizing a supply for a double leaf pair: 1166 mA at 12VDC, or 670 mA at 24VDC. The single-coil version draws 583 mA at 12VDC and 335 mA at 24VDC. Running at 24V roughly halves the current, which matters if you are backing the openings up on batteries.
4) Can I monitor door position without installing separate door contacts?
Yes. Optional integrated door and lock status sensors let the head end see door and bond condition without a separate surface contact on the frame. On the order form those are the Door Status Switch and the Dynastat force sensor options, plus an anti-tamper switch and a 1 to 60 second relock time delay if you need it.
5) I only need to secure a single door - what should I order instead of the 2268-TJ20?
The 2268-TJ20 is a double-coil unit for a pair of doors. For a single leaf, single-door magnetic locks include the Alarm Controls 1200 Series, the ROFU 8512 rated 1200 LB holding force at 12/24VDC with selectable keyhole mounting, and the Dorma EML310 single-door 1500 lb. unit, which is offered with a door position sensor and optionally a bond alert sensor.
6) My egress plan calls for delayed egress - does the 2268-TJ20 provide that?
The 2268-TJ20 is a standard fail-safe style magnet with optional anti-tamper switch, door status switch, Dynastat force sensor and a 1 to 60 second relock time delay; the relock delay controls re-energizing after release, not delayed egress. For a code-required delayed egress function on a single door, the Alarm Controls 1200DE Series delayed egress magnetic lock is the purpose-built unit.
7) Which mag locks look like substitutes for the 2268-TJ20 but mount completely differently?
Two in the same access-control family are not drop-in alternates. The ROFU 8031-002 is a shear lock at 2200 LB holding force, 12/24VDC, monitored - shear locks are concealed in the header and door edge rather than surface mounted. The Schlage 320M is a compact mortise sliding door electromagnetic lock at 1500 lbs, prepped into a sliding door application. The 2268-TJ20 is surface mounted to the face of the frame header for a double inswinging pair.
8) Do I need to specify handing for a DynaLock 2268 electromagnetic lock?
No handing to call out. The 2268 is non-handed and has a wiring connection area at each end of the lock, so you can bring your feed in from whichever side the conduit lands on.
9) What do I have to order to get the bi-color LEDs on a 2268 mag lock?
The two bi-color LEDs are only available with the Dynastat force sensor, so that option has to be added as well. The LEDs give a local indication at the lock, which is useful on a delayed-egress or high-security opening where the installer wants to see bond status at the door.
10) Can I use the 2268 on a fire rated door?
The 2268 series is designed for life safety and high security service on rated or nonrated doors and frames. It has no residual magnetism, so it releases without delay when power drops, which is the behavior an egress door needs. Release control, signage and the rest of the egress scheme still has to satisfy your local code official for the occupancy.
11) Is the 2268 suitable for an exterior door exposed to weather?
The 2268 Classic is a surface mounted interior-style lock; its corrosion protection comes from a fully plated coil and armature, but it is not sold as a weather rated unit. For an exposed opening look at a weatherproof model such as the Alarm Controls 1200WP, the Locknetics WMG Series (600/1200 lb, 12/24VDC), or the Dortronics 1000 Series with sealed electronics.
12) Is a mag lock like the 2268 the right choice, or should I use a shear lock?
A surface mag lock like the 2268 mounts on the frame header with the armature on the door face, so it is visible and needs about 2 inches of header height. A shear lock such as the ROFU 8031-002 (2200 lb, 12/24VDC, monitored) conceals into the header and door edge instead, and the Schlage 320M is a compact mortise unit at 1500 lbs for sliding doors. Choose the surface mag when you cannot machine the door or frame; choose shear or mortise when appearance matters more than install labor.
