Each 2500 Series Electromagnetic Lock is comprised of 3 basic components: a lock housing, an electromagnetic coil, and an armature. The coil and housing assembly mounts rigidly to the door frame while the armature mounts to the door in a manner that allows it to pivot slightly to compensate for door irregularities. When the door is closed and the lock is energized the armature is magnetically bonded to the lock face, thus securing the door without utilizing any moving parts. Single and double door models are available as well as the 2585 Series, which has a shorter housing. At only 81 /2” long, the 2585 “Bantam” lock is perfect for installations where space is limited. All locks are designed for ease of use, and built in the USA to last a lifetime.

DynaLock 2511 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the DynaLock 2511 maglock work on an inswinging door?
No. The 2511 is the outswing model, mounting to the underside of the frame header. For a single inswinging door you want the 2511TJ instead, which is the same single-coil 650 lb lock but mounts to the face of the frame header.
2) Do I have to order a specific voltage, or is the DynaLock 2511 field selectable?
One part covers both voltages. The 2511 is field selectable for 12 or 24 volts, so you set it at install rather than stocking two versions. Current draw is 381 mA at 12V and 205 mA at 24V for the single-door lock.
3) Can I run the 2511 maglock off an AC power supply?
Yes, but order it with the pre-wired rectifier bridge option for 12/24 VAC operation. That is a selectable option on the 2511, and it is what lets the coil run from an AC source. If your access control panel puts out filtered DC you do not need it.
4) Can I monitor door position and lock status with the DynaLock 2511?
Yes. Three monitoring options can be specified: an anti-tamper switch (armature contact), a door status switch, and the Dynastat force sensor, in any combination including all three on one lock. The Dynastat option also enables the bi-color LED, which cannot be ordered without it.
5) What is the difference between the DynaLock 2511 mini electromagnetic lock and the ROFU 8035 mini shear lock?
The DynaLock 2511 is a surface mounted direct-hold electromagnet rated at 650 lbs. holding force, mounting to the underside of the frame header on a single outswinging door, with a housing measuring 1-1/4 in. D x 1-3/4 in. H x 10-1/2 in. L and 12/24 VDC/VAC field selectable operation. The ROFU 8035 is a mini shear lock rated at 1200 lb holding force, also 12/24VDC and monitored. A shear lock holds by engaging an armature in shear rather than by surface contact, so the two are installed differently even though both are compact maglocks.
6) Does the 2511 mini maglock hold the door with a bolt or latch?
Neither. It works by magnetism: the coil and housing bolt rigidly to the frame, an armature mounts to the door, and when the door closes and the coil is energized the armature bonds to the lock face. No moving parts are involved, and because there is no residual magnetism the lock releases the instant power is cut, so it fails safe on a power drop or fire alarm signal.
7) Will the 2511 overload a battery backup or shared access control power supply?
Draw is modest for a maglock: 381 mA at 12V, dropping to 205 mA at 24V for the single lock. Running at 24V roughly halves the current, which extends standby battery time when several openings share one supply. Built-in spike suppression also protects the other solid state devices on the circuit when the lock drops out.
8) If I want door monitoring on a mini maglock, do I have to go to the ROFU 8035?
No. The ROFU 8035 mini shear lock is offered as a monitored unit at 12/24VDC, but the DynaLock 2511 can be ordered with monitoring options built in: a door status switch, an anti-tamper switch, and a Dynastat force sensor, in any combination, plus a bi-color LED when the Dynastat force sensor is selected. A pre-wired rectifier bridge for 12/24 VAC operation is also an option.
9) Will the armature stay aligned on a slightly warped door?
The armature mounts so it can pivot slightly, which takes up minor door irregularities and keeps full face contact against the lock. Both the coil and the armature are fully plated for corrosion protection.
10) Is the DynaLock 2511 suitable for commercial buildings, and is it made in the USA?
It is a commercial-duty electromagnetic lock, built in the USA. Surface mount, hard-wired (no battery), so it needs a low-voltage feed to the frame header from your access control system.
