DynaLock 3000 Series 1500 Lb. Electro Magnetic Locks

Model 3000

3000 Single Outswinging Door
Single coil. Mounts to the underside of the frame header. 1500 Lbs. Holding Force

The 3000 Series is a full size 1500 lbs. holding force electromagnet. It is designed for life safety and high security on rated or nonrated doors and frames. Specify for commercial, industrial, or institutional openings where maximum security and durability is required. All 3000 Series locks are designed for ease of installation with DynaLock’s exclusive FasTrak mounting system, field selectable voltage, and convenient wiring compartments. Optional integrated door and lock status sensors allow remote monitoring without the need to install separate “door contacts”. The 3000 Series is offered in single, double, and split armature models for both outswinging and inswinging doors. The coil and housing assembly mounts rigidly to the door frame while the armature mounts to the door in a manner that allows it to pivot slightly to compensate for door irregularities. When the door is closed and the lock is energized the armature is magnetically bonded to the lock face, thus securing the door without utilizing any moving parts.

Standard Features

• One Piece Housing made from high strength aluminum. A seamless housing means maximum resistance to weather and tampering.
• FasTrack Mounting: Speed up installation by mounting the FasTrak channel to the frame first. Lock can then be attached and removed with ease.
• Universal Design: Lock handing can easily be reversed in the field, allowing placement of the coil adjacent to the vertical jamb where it will exert the most efficient force.
• Low power consumption conserves energy, reduces operation cost, and extends battery backup time.
• A totally plated coil and armature provides protection against corrosion.
• A narrow backset of 1-1/2” may mean the elimination of other mounting brackets or filler plates.
• No residual magnetism - the door releases without delay when lock is de-energized.
• Built-in spike suppression protects other solid state components within the system from damage when the lock is de-energized.
• Lifetime Warranty - American Made in the USA by DynaLock, with over 20 years experience in the manufacture of electromagnetic locks.

DynaLock 3000 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the DynaLock 3000 mag lock work on an inswing door?
No. The DynaLock 3000 is the single outswing configuration, mounting to the underside of the frame header with the armature on the door face. For an inswinging opening you need the inswing model from the same family, since the 3000 Series is offered in single, double, and split armature models for both outswinging and inswinging doors. Ordering the outswing unit for an inswing opening means the wrong bracket and no way to make the armature land on the lock face.
2) What voltage and current draw should I size the power supply for on a DynaLock 3000?
It is multi-voltage auto-sensing 12/24 VAC or VDC, so no jumper hunting at install. Single-door draw is 374 mA at 12VDC and 210 mA at 24VDC. Running at 24V roughly halves the current, which stretches battery backup runtime on a fire alarm release circuit. The double version pulls 748 mA at 12VDC or 420 mA at 24VDC if you are sizing one supply for several openings.
3) What is the difference between the DSM, HSM and VOP options on a DynaLock 3000?
DSM is a door status switch alone, signaling door closed or ajar. HSM adds a Dynastat force sensor to that switch, so the head end sees both door position and whether the magnetic bond is actually efficient, not just that the door is shut. VOP carries the door status switch, the Dynastat force sensor, and an anti-tamper switch that signals if the wiring access cover is removed. The bi-color LED option requires either HSM or VOP.
4) Do I still need separate door contacts if I order a monitored mag lock?
No, not if you specify DSM, HSM, or VOP. The integrated door and lock status sensors allow remote monitoring without installing separate door contacts, which saves a second set of wire runs and a concealed contact mortise in the frame. If you order the plain model with all monitoring options set to no, you get holding force only and will need contacts elsewhere for position reporting.
5) Does a DynaLock 3000 delay before releasing when power drops?
There is no delayed egress on the 3000. It has no residual magnetism, so the door releases without delay the instant the lock is de-energized, which is what a fail-safe life safety release needs. There is a separate adjustable relock time delay, standard on all models, that controls how long the lock waits before re-energizing after a valid release. If you actually want delayed egress, that is a different product, such as the Alarm Controls 1200DE single-door delayed egress mag lock.
6) What is the closest 1500 lb single-door magnetic lock equivalent to the DynaLock 3000?
The Dorma EML310 and the Schlage Electronics M390RFK are the closest single-door matches on holding force. The DynaLock 3000 is a 1500 lb. holding force surface-mounted electromagnetic lock for outswing doors. The Dorma EML310 is a single-door 1500 lb. electromagnetic lock with a door position sensor, and a Bond Alert version is also offered. The Schlage M390RFK is a 1500 lb. holding force electromagnetic lock with door status monitor, magnetic bond sensor, and relock time delay, and is a direct retrofit for the Locknetics 390+. The DynaLock 3000 carries an adjustable relock time delay as standard and offers its monitoring as ordering options (DSM, HSM, VOP).
7) Is the ROFU 8031-002 shear lock a substitute for the DynaLock 3000?
They are different lock types and do not interchange. The DynaLock 3000 is a surface-mounted electromagnet whose coil and housing attach under the frame header while the armature mounts on the door face, holding at 1500 lbs. The ROFU 8031-002 is a shear lock with 2200 LB holding force, 12/24VDC, monitored - a shear lock is concealed and engages a keeper rather than bonding to a surface armature, so the frame prep is not the same. The Schlage 320M is likewise a compact mortise electromagnetic lock for sliding doors at 1500 lbs, not a header-surface magnet.
8) Do I have to order a handed version of this mag lock?
No. Lock handing reverses in the field, so one part number covers left and right hand openings. You reverse it so the coil sits adjacent to the vertical jamb, where it puts the force closest to the hinge-opposite edge of the door. That also means a property manager stocking spares only has to carry one unit for a run of outswing doors.
9) Can this mag lock go on a fire rated door?
The 3000 Series is built for life safety and high security on rated or nonrated doors and frames, in commercial, industrial, or institutional openings. It is a heavy duty commercial unit, surface mounted, and the housing is one piece high strength aluminum for tamper and weather resistance.
10) Does the armature need the door to close perfectly flat against it?
No. The coil and housing bolt rigidly to the frame, but the armature mounts to the door so it can pivot slightly and compensate for door irregularities. On a slightly racked or warped leaf that is what lets the armature seat flat and pull full bond. There are no moving parts in the lock itself; security comes from the magnetic bond alone.
11) Is there a lighter-holding or slimmer mag lock if 1500 lb is more than the opening needs?
Yes. The DynaLock 3000 is a full size 1500 lb. magnet with a 1-1/2 in. deep by 2-3/4 in. high by 11 in. long housing. For lower holding force, the Schlage M420 is a single-door electromagnetic lock rated 500 lbs, the Dortronics 1107 is a narrow 2 in. slim line 600 lb single-door mag lock, and the Locknetics MG Series is offered in 600 lb and 1200 lb models at 12/24VDC. The ROFU 8512 is a single magnet at 1200 lb holding force, 12/24VDC.
12) Will the DynaLock 3000 give me delayed egress for a stairwell or retail exit?
The DynaLock 3000 provides an adjustable relock time delay as standard, which controls how long the magnet stays released after an unlock signal - that is not the same as delayed egress. Where a delayed egress magnet is specified, the Alarm Controls 1200DE Series is a delayed egress magnetic lock for a single door. Optional DSM, HSM and VOP packages on the 3000 add door status, bond force sensing and anti-tamper monitoring.
13) Which 1500 lb mag locks are listed as fire rated for a rated opening?
The DynaLock 3000 is designed for life safety and high security on rated or nonrated doors and frames in commercial, industrial and institutional openings. Among comparable single- and double-door magnets, the Dorma EML310 and EML320 carry a fire rating and are electrically locked (fail safe) devices. Fail safe means the magnet releases on loss of power, which is the usual requirement on an egress opening.
14) What is the FasTrak mounting system and does it speed up install?
FasTrak is a channel you fasten to the frame header first. The lock body then attaches to and lifts off that channel, so one person can set the layout, drill, and run wire without holding a 11 inch magnet in place. It also means the lock can be pulled later for service without redrilling the frame. Wiring compartments in the housing take the splices.
15) Will a surface mag lock damage my access control boards when it releases?
Built-in spike suppression protects other solid state components in the system from the inductive kick when the lock de-energizes, so you do not have to add an external diode across the coil at the relay. That is worth knowing on a shared power supply feeding a reader and controller off the same circuit.
