DynaLock 2500 Series 650 Lb. “Mini” Electromagnetic Locks

Model 2511/2511TJ

2511 Single Outswinging Door
Single coil. Mounts to the underside of the frame header.
12 or 24 VDC/VAC field selectable.

2511TJ Single Inswinging Door
Single coil. Mounts to the face of the frame header.
12 or 24 VDC/VAC field selectable.

Each 2500 Series Electromagnetic Lock is comprised of 3 basic components: a lock housing, an electromagnetic coil, and an armature. The coil and housing assembly mounts rigidly to the door frame while the armature mounts to the door in a manner that allows it to pivot slightly to compensate for door irregularities. When the door is closed and the lock is energized the armature is magnetically bonded to the lock face, thus securing the door without utilizing any moving parts. Single and double door models are available as well as the 2585 Series, which has a shorter housing. At only 81 /2” long, the 2585 “Bantam” lock is perfect for installations where space is limited. All locks are designed for ease of use, and built in the USA to last a lifetime.

Standard Features

• Holding Force - 650 lbs. holding force provides for effective traffic control. Examples include interioroffice doors, clean room interlocks, tool cribs, andx-ray areas.
• 4 Operating Voltages - All models (except the 2585) offer 12 or 24 VDC or VAC for installation flexibility and to reduce stock.
• Low Power Consumption conserves energy, reduces operating cost, and extends battery backup time
• A Totally Plated Coil and armature provides protection against corrosion
• No Residual Magnetism - The lock releases without delay when de-energized
• Narrow Backset - A thin lock section (11 /4”) may mean the elimination of additional mounting brackets
• Built-In Spike Suppression protects other solid state components within the system from damage when the lock is de-energized.

DynaLock 2511TJ – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What's the difference between the DynaLock 2511 and the 2511-TJ maglock?
Door swing decides it. The 2511-TJ is for a single inswinging door and mounts to the face of the frame header. The plain 2511 is for a single outswinging door and mounts to the underside of the header. Both are single coil, 650 lb holding force, and both are field selectable for 12 or 24 volts. If you order the wrong one you will not have a surface to mount it on.
2) Can I run this maglock on AC power instead of DC?
Yes. The lock is field selectable for 12 or 24 volts, AC or DC, so one part covers four operating voltages and you can stock fewer variants across a building. For AC operation you can order it with the pre-wired rectifier bridge option, which is offered on every configuration of the 2511-TJ.
3) What current draw should I size my power supply and battery backup for?
A single 2500 Series mini lock pulls 381 mA at 12V or 205 mA at 24V. Running it at 24V roughly halves the draw, which stretches battery backup time on a standby supply. A double-door version draws 762 mA at 12V or 410 mA at 24V, so budget accordingly if you are feeding a pair off one supply.
4) What monitoring options can I order on the DynaLock 2511-TJ?
Three monitoring options, each independently yes or no: an anti-tamper switch, a door status switch, and the Dynastat force sensor. All eight combinations are orderable, with or without the pre-wired rectifier bridge. If you want the bi-color LED, you must also take the Dynastat force sensor, since the LED depends on it. Access control integrators typically spec the door status switch for door-position reporting back to the panel and the Dynastat to confirm the magnet is actually bonded.
5) Will this maglock stay stuck to the door after the power drops?
No. The 2500 Series coil has no residual magnetism, so the armature releases the instant it is de-energized, with no delay. The lock also has built-in spike suppression so the collapsing coil field does not damage other solid state components on the same circuit. Both matter on egress doors tied to a fire alarm or push-to-exit release.
6) Do I need one of these per leaf on a pair of doors?
No. The 2500 Series is made in single and double versions. The 2511-TJ is the single, with a 10-1/2 inch housing and one coil. For a pair of inswinging doors the double housing runs 21 inches and draws 762 mA at 12V or 410 mA at 24V. Ordering two singles is not how DynaLock configures a pair.
7) Will an electromagnetic lock hold up in a high-traffic commercial building?
A maglock has no moving parts in the locking path. The coil and housing bolt rigidly to the frame, and the armature on the door pivots slightly to take up door irregularities, so it bonds even on a leaf that has settled or racked. Coil and armature are both fully plated against corrosion. It is a commercial-rated device, built in the USA, and it is not battery operated, so it needs a wired supply.
8) Should I use a surface maglock or a shear lock on this opening?
A surface-mounted maglock like the 2511-TJ sits on the header face with the armature on the door, so nothing gets morticed and the install is quick, but the hardware is visible. A shear lock such as the ROFU 8035 conceals into the header and door edge, holds at 1200 lb, and is monitored, at the cost of a more involved prep. Pick the surface unit for retrofits and interior traffic control; pick shear when the opening has to look clean or needs more force.
9) For a maglock that does not show on the face of the frame, what are my options against the DynaLock 2511-TJ?
The DynaLock 2511-TJ is a surface-mounted lock, so the housing and armature remain visible on the frame header and door. If a concealed look matters, the ROFU 8035 mini shear lock is the alternative in the comparable set, since shear locks are installed into the header rather than on its face. Both operate on 12/24VDC, so the same power supply approach applies.
10) I need door monitoring on an electromagnetic lock - can I get that on the DynaLock 2511-TJ or do I need a different lock?
You can get it on the 2511-TJ. It is configurable with a door status switch, an anti-tamper switch, and the Dynastat force sensor, alone or in combination, plus an optional pre-wired rectifier bridge for 12/24 VAC operation and a bi-color LED that requires the Dynastat sensor. The ROFU 8035 mini shear lock is also offered monitored at 1200 LB holding force if the higher force is what drives the choice.
