1) Will an ACSI 3700 Series mag lock work on an outswing door, or do I need a different model?
The ACSI Series 3700 electromagnetic locks are built for single doors or pairs, outswing or inswing. They surface mount, so no mortising into the door or frame. Door swing and leaf count drive which model in the series you order (3720, 3721 or 3750).
2) What power supply do I need for an ACSI 3720 magnetic lock?
Either 12VDC at 500mA or 24VDC at 250mA. Size the supply for the total current of every lock on the circuit, and remember these are fail safe, so the supply carries them continuously while the door is secured. Surge and spike protection is built into the lock.
3) Does an ACSI 3700 mag lock unlock if the building loses power?
Yes. The 3700 Series is fail safe, so cutting power releases the magnet and the door opens. That is what lets it work with life safety egress requirements on a code-controlled opening. If you need a door that stays locked on power loss, a magnetic lock is the wrong device type.
4) Can I put an ACSI 3700 mag lock on an aluminum and glass storefront door?
Yes, with the right bracket. Glass door brackets are an available option on the 3700 Series, and custom length housings can be specified where the header run does not suit a standard housing. Architectural finishes are offered so the housing matches the rest of the storefront hardware.
5) I need delayed egress, not straight fail safe locking. What do I order instead of the ACSI 3720?
The ACSI 3720/3721 is a fail safe electromagnetic lock that releases on power loss and conforms with life-safety codes, but it is not a delayed egress device. For delayed egress on a single door, the Alarm Controls 1200DE Series is a delayed egress magnetic lock for single doors, and the DynaLock 2101 Series is a 1200 lb early warning lock.
6) Which magnetic lock should I use on a sliding door if the ACSI 3720 is surface mounted?
The ACSI 3720/3721 is a surface-mounted unit intended for single or pairs of outswing or inswing swinging doors. For a sliding leaf, the Schlage 320M is a compact mortise sliding door electromagnetic lock rated 1500 lbs holding force and heavy duty.
7) Can I monitor door position with the ACSI 3720 without adding a separate contact?
A door position sensor is built into the 3700 Series, so you can report open/closed back to the access control panel without installing a separate magnetic contact. A magnetic bond sensor, which reports actual magnetic bond rather than just door position, is a separate option along with a power LED.
8) Is the ACSI 3720 mag lock suitable for a commercial building, and is it UL Listed?
It is a commercial grade device and it is UL Listed. There are no moving parts, so there is nothing to wear out or adjust on a high traffic opening, and current draw is low enough to run several on a single access control supply.
9) Does a magnetic lock like the ACSI 3720 satisfy ADA requirements on its own?
No. The 3700 Series is not an ADA compliant device by itself. It is a holding device; the egress and accessibility side of the opening comes from whatever release hardware and operator you pair with it, so that has to be specified separately on an accessible route.
10) What is the difference between the ACSI 3720 magnetic lock and a shear lock like the ROFU 8031-002?
The ACSI 3720/3721 is a surface-mounted electromagnetic lock with no moving parts, mounted on the frame with an armature on the door leaf for single or paired outswing or inswing doors. The ROFU 8031-002 is a shear lock rated 2200 lb holding force on 12/24VDC with monitoring, a different mounting concept that engages the door edge or header concealed rather than surface-applied. A magnetic lock and a shear lock are not interchangeable in the same prep.
11) Is there a magnetic lock with a simpler mounting method than the ACSI 3720 for a retrofit?
The ACSI 3720/3721 mounts to the surface of the frame and offers custom length housings and glass door brackets. If you want a mounting pattern with fewer fixed hole requirements, the ROFU 8512 is a standard single magnet with selectable keyhole mounting at 1200 LB holding force on 12/24VDC, and the DynaLock 2011 is a single surface-mount outswing lock rated 1200 lb in the 2000 Series.
12) Do I have to change out my wiring if I standardize on ACSI 3700 locks across a building?
