ACSI ACL9080EU/EL – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is the ACSI ACL9080EU/EL and does it come with a lever or trim?
The ACL9080EU/EL is an electric lock body only, not a complete lockset. It's an ACSI Series 1500 electrified lock chassis with a factory connector, supplied to electrify an existing manufacturer's lockset. Levers, roses, cylinders and any trim are ordered separately. Buyers replacing a whole opening should be looking at a complete unit such as the ACSI ACND80LDEU or ACND80LDEL storeroom electric lock rather than a bare body.
2) Can I set the ACL9080EU/EL to fail safe or fail secure in the field, or do I have to order it one way?
Field selectable, both ways. The EU/EL designation means one part covers both modes and you set it at install. Fail safe (power to lock) keeps the outside trim locked while energized and releases to passage on power loss. Fail secure (power to unlock) does the opposite: energized unlocks the outside trim, and the lock stays locked when power drops. That matters on a stairtower or an access-controlled suite, where the life-safety strategy decides the mode, and it's often decided after the hardware is already on site.
3) Will the ACSI ACL9080EU/EL run on 12V or 24V, AC or DC?
All four. The ACL9080EU/EL takes 12VAC, 12VDC, 24VAC or 24VDC with automatic operation, so you don't have to match the lock to the power supply already in the panel. That's the practical difference between the motor-controlled bodies and ACSI's solenoid-controlled locks, which must be specified as either 12VAC/DC or 24VAC/DC at time of order.
4) Does the ACSI ACL9080EU/EL have a request-to-exit switch built in?
No. The plain ACL9080EU/EL ships with the connector and no REX switch. If your access control head end needs a request-to-exit signal to shunt an alarm or log egress, order the ACL9080EU/EL-RX instead, which is the same field-selectable 12/24VAC/DC body with the Request to Exit switch added. It's a different part number, not an accessory you add later.
5) If the ACSI electric lock is electrically locked, can someone still get in with a key?
Yes, where a key cylinder is fitted in the lock. The latchbolt can be momentarily retracted with the key even while the lock is electrically locked, so a maintenance tech or first responder isn't shut out when the reader is down. The reverse does not work: a lock that is electrically unlocked cannot be locked with the key cylinder. Plan the override around that, particularly on fail safe openings where a power loss leaves the door in passage.
6) Does ACSI make electric lock bodies to fit Schlage, Sargent or Best locksets?
Yes. ACSI stocks electric mortise lock bodies for Schlage, Corbin Russwin, Sargent, Yale, Best and Falcon locksets, in motor-controlled and solenoid-controlled versions, so the existing lever and cylinder hardware on the opening can stay. Match the body to the brand of lockset already hung on the door; that is what makes these a retrofit rather than a full hardware swap.
7) Is this ACSI electric lock body UL Listed for a stairtower door?
UL Listed, yes. ACSI's Series 1500 electric locks are built for stairtower doors and controlled areas where the opening has to both lock and latch, and they allow remote locking or unlocking while conforming to life-safety codes. The body interfaces with life-safety systems, which is what lets it release on a fire alarm input when set fail safe.
8) Should I buy a motor-controlled or a solenoid-controlled ACSI electric lock?
Motor-controlled is the flexible one and that's what the ACL9080EU/EL is: field selectable between fail safe and fail secure, automatic on 12V or 24V, AC or DC. Solenoid-controlled ACSI locks have to be nailed down at order time, both the mode and the voltage, and they run continuous duty solenoids. If the opening's function or power source may change, or you're stocking one part for a building with mixed panels, take the motor-controlled body. If the spec is fixed and already written, a solenoid unit does the job.
9) Can I monitor whether the ACSI Series 1500 lock is secure from my access control panel?
Security monitoring is an available option on the Series 1500 locks, along with authorized egress (request to exit) and life-safety system interface. Monitoring has to be specified: the base ACL9080EU/EL is the body with connector, and the REX version is the separate ACL9080EU/EL-RX. For an integrator wiring back to a panel, decide the monitoring points before ordering, since they're built into the lock body rather than added on the door later.
10) Is the ACSI ACL9080EU/EL rated for commercial use, or is it a residential lock?
Commercial. The Series 1500 is commercial access control hardware for stairtowers and controlled areas in institutional and multi-tenant buildings, not residential product. For facility standardization across a building, ACSI's Grade 1 cylindrical range covers the common preps: ACND80BDEU for 7-pin SFIC, ACND80JDEU for Schlage FSIC, and the ACND96 series for Vandlgard storeroom openings.
