ACSI K-106 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the ACSI K-106 switch kit fit my Adams Rite exit device?
The K-106 is built specifically for Adams Rite 8000 and 3000 Series exit devices. It's a field-installed kit, so it goes into a device already hung on the door rather than requiring a factory-ordered option. If your device is another brand, the K series has a different kit for it: K-100 for Von Duprin 33A, 35A, 98 and 99, K-103 for Sargent 80, K-107 for Corbin Russwin 8000 and Yale 2100, K-129 for Falcon 24 and 25.
2) What does a request-to-exit switch kit in an exit device actually do?
It senses when someone pushes the push bar and sends a signal out on a dry contact. On a door held by a magnetic lock, that signal drops the mag instantly so the person gets free egress without a delay. It's also used to shunt or trigger a door alarm, or to flag the control console that the bar was used. The K-106 monitors push bar use only.
3) Is the K-106 a single pole or double pole switch?
SPDT, single pole double throw. You get one common with a normally open and a normally closed leg, which covers most mag lock release and alarm shunt wiring. If your panel needs two independent circuits off one bar push, you need a DPDT kit instead, and ACSI builds those only for certain devices: K-200 for Von Duprin 33A/35A/98/99, K-203 for Sargent 80, and K-226 for Hager 4500/4600, PDQ 6200 and Stanley QED100/200/300.
4) Will the K-106 monitor whether the latch is actually retracted, or only that the bar was pushed?
Push bar only. The K-106 tells your system the bar was depressed, which is what request-to-exit and mag lock release need. It does not report latch bolt position. For latch bolt monitoring ACSI makes the K-123 for Von Duprin 33A, 35A, 98 and 99, and the K-127 for use with the ACSI 1500K-VD ELR kit on those same Von Duprin devices.
5) What voltage can I switch through the ACSI K-106 request to exit kit?
The switch is rated to 250VAC, so it handles low voltage access control circuits (12 and 24 volt mag lock and panel wiring) with plenty of margin, as well as line voltage signalling if your job calls for it.
6) Does the K-106 kit come with wire, or do I have to splice at the switch?
The switch assembly ships with long wire leads already attached, plus installation instructions. You pull the leads through the device and out to your junction or door loop and land them there, so there's no soldering at the switch body itself.
7) Can I use the ACSI K-106 on a fire rated exit device opening?
The K-106 kit itself carries no fire rating. It's a commercial-duty electrical switch component, not a listed fire door assembly part, so on a labeled opening the rating comes from the exit device and door assembly, and any field modification to a labeled device has to follow the device manufacturer's instructions.
8) I'm standardizing REX switches across a building with mixed exit device brands. Can I use one ACSI part number?
No single kit covers a mixed fleet. The Series K kits are cut to the internal geometry of each device family, so you order per device: K-106 for Adams Rite 8000 and 3000, K-101 for Von Duprin 55, K-102 for Von Duprin 88, K-104 for Sargent 9600/9700/9800/9900, K-105 for Sargent 9300/9400/9500, K-108 for Jackson 1085/1095, K-110 for Monarch 18 and 19, K-111 for Doromatic 990/1090, K-112 for Doromatic 1490/1590, K-124 for Precision 2000, K-125 for Dorma 9000, K-128 for Design 1000, K-130 for Jackson 20, K-131 for Falcon 1690/1790. What does standardize is the switch itself, SPDT across the line, so your panel wiring and terminations stay the same door to door.
9) Is the ACSI K-106 an ADA compliant device?
ADA compliance is not claimed for the K-106. It's an internal switch component, so it adds nothing to the operating force or reach of the opening; accessibility on that door is determined by the Adams Rite exit device and hardware it's installed into.
