ACSI K-126 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) I have a Von Duprin 99 exit device - can I use the K-126 request to exit kit on it?
No. The K-126 is cut for Hager 4500 and 4600, PDQ 6200, and Stanley Commercial QED100, 200 and 300 devices only. ACSI builds a separate kit per device family: for Von Duprin 33A, 35A, 98 and 99 the kit is the K-100 (or the K-200 for a DPDT switch). Ordering by device family is the whole point of the Series K lineup.
2) What does a request to exit switch kit in an exit device actually do?
It puts a monitor switch on the push bar so the access control system knows someone is leaving. When the bar is depressed the switch changes state, and that signal can release a magnetic lock instantly for free egress, trip or shunt a door alarm so an authorized exit does not sound it, or report the exit to a control console. Without it, a mag-locked door has no electrical signal telling the lock to drop when someone pushes the bar.
3) Do I have to replace the exit device to add request to exit monitoring, or can it be retrofitted?
Retrofit. Series K kits are field installed into an exit device that is already hung, so a Hager 4500 or 4600, PDQ 6200, or QED100, 200 or 300 stays on the door. The kit ships as a switch assembly with long wire leads and installation instructions, so the labor is opening the device, mounting the switch and pulling the leads to your power transfer.
4) Can I put the ACSI K-126 switch kit in a fire rated exit device?
The K-126 kit is not fire rated. Where a labeled opening is involved, the modification has to be one the exit device manufacturer permits on its labeled assembly, so verify with the device label before cutting into it. The kit is also not ADA compliant as a component, which is expected for an internal switch that does not change how the bar operates.
5) Does the K-126 monitor the latch bolt or just the push bar?
Push bar only. The K-126 tells you the bar was pushed, not whether the latch is actually thrown or the door is secure. Latch bolt monitoring is a different part in the ACSI lineup, the K-123 for Von Duprin 33A, 35A, 98 and 99 devices. If your spec calls for positive latch confirmation on a Hager or QED opening, a push bar switch will not satisfy it.
6) I am standardizing request to exit switches across a building with mixed exit device brands - can I use one part number?
No, and that is worth planning for. ACSI matches the kit to the device family, so one building with mixed hardware needs several part numbers: K-126 for Hager 4500 and 4600, PDQ 6200 and QED100, 200 and 300; K-103 for Sargent 80; K-104 for Sargent 9600, 9700, 9800 and 9900; K-106 for Adams Rite 8000 and 3000; K-129 for Falcon 24 and 25; K-125 for Dorma 9000. Survey the openings by device series first, then order per series.
