1) What does a request to exit switch kit in an exit device actually do?
It senses the push bar. When someone pushes the bar, the switch in the K-226 kit closes and can instantly release a magnetic lock for free egress, signal a control console, trigger a door alarm, or shunt an alarm so the door can be used without sounding. That is what lets a mag-locked or alarmed opening stay code-compliant for egress without anyone touching a keypad or reader on the way out.
2) What is the difference between the ACSI K-126 and the K-226 for Hager 4500 and PDQ 6200 devices?
Same device coverage, different switch. Both ACSI kits are made for Hager 4500 and 4600, PDQ 6200, and QED100, 200 and 300 devices; the K-226 is the DPDT version. DPDT gives you two independent sets of contacts off one push of the bar, so you can drive two things at once, say drop a mag lock and shunt an alarm panel input. If you only need one circuit switched, the K-126 is the plain version of the same kit.
3) I have Von Duprin 99 exit devices, not Hager. Which ACSI switch kit do I need?
Not the K-226, that one is cut for Hager 4500 and 4600, PDQ 6200 and QED100, 200 and 300 devices. For Von Duprin 33A, 35A, 98 and 99 devices, ACSI makes the K-100, or the K-200 if you want the DPDT version. Other families in the same kit line: K-103 and K-203 for Sargent 80, K-129 for Falcon 24 and 25, K-106 for Adams Rite 8000 and 3000, K-125 for Dorma 9000. The kits are device-specific, so match the series before ordering.
4) Can the ACSI K-226 switch kit go into a fire rated exit device?
No fire rating is carried on the K-226 kit. Treat it as a non-rated accessory: on a labeled opening, the device and any add-on hardware have to be listed for that use, and this kit is not.
5) Is the ACSI K-226 a complete kit or do I need to buy the switch separately?
Complete for what it does. The K Series kit ships as a switch assembly with long wire leads and installation instructions. What it does not include is the rest of the system: you still supply the mag lock, alarm panel, or access control input it feeds, plus the power and the wire run from the door to that equipment. Wiring through a hinge or door loop to the frame is your side of the job.
6) Does the K-226 kit monitor whether the latch is actually secure, or only when the bar is pushed?
Only the bar. The K-226 signals when the push bar is depressed, which is a request to exit, not a latch position. If you need to know the door is truly latched and secure, that is a latch bolt monitor, a different kit in the same ACSI line: the K-123 for Von Duprin 33A, 35A, 98 and 99, and the K-127 for the ACSI 1500K-VD ELR kit on those same devices. Security integrators often run both, one for egress release and one for door status back to the panel.
7) Is the ACSI K-226 switch kit rated for commercial use?
Commercial, yes. The K-226 is a commercial grade electronic accessory for exit device applications, which is where mag locks, egress alarms, and access control consoles live in the first place. It is not a residential product and has no residential equivalent in the K Series.
