ACSI K-129 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the ACSI K-129 switch kit fit a Falcon 25 series exit device?
Yes. The K-129 is built specifically for Falcon 24 and 25 Series exit devices. ACSI makes a different kit for each device family, so the K-129 is the one to order for those two Falcon series and not for other Falcon devices. If your device is a Falcon 1690 or 1790, the K-131 is the kit that matches.
2) What does a request to exit switch kit in an exit device actually do?
It puts a switch behind the push bar so the act of pushing the bar sends a signal. In the K-129, that signal can instantly release a magnetic lock so somebody can walk out, trigger a door alarm, shunt an alarm so egress does not set it off, or tell a control console the bar was pushed. It is the piece that ties a mechanical exit device into an access control or alarm system.
3) Is the ACSI K-129 a single pole or double pole switch?
SPDT, single pole double throw, with one set of common, normally open and normally closed contacts. That gives you one circuit to work with. If your job needs two independent circuits off the same push bar, ACSI builds DPDT versions of some kits, such as the K-200 for Von Duprin 33A, 35A, 98 and 99 devices or the K-203 for Sargent 80 Series, but the Falcon 24/25 kit is the SPDT K-129.
4) Do I have to replace the whole exit device to add request to exit monitoring, or can I retrofit?
Retrofit. The Series K kits are field installed into an exit device you already have hanging, so a Falcon 24 or 25 device on the door now can be converted with the K-129 rather than swapped out. The kit is the SPDT switch assembly with long wire leads and installation instructions.
5) Does the ACSI K-129 monitor the latch bolt or the push bar?
The push bar. The K-129 switch mounts to the pushbar assembly and reports when the bar is depressed, which is what a request to exit signal is. It does not tell you whether the latch is actually thrown into the strike. Latch bolt monitoring is a different kit in the ACSI line, such as the K-123 for Von Duprin 33A, 35A, 98 and 99 devices.
6) I am standardizing request to exit switches across a building with mixed exit device brands. Do I order K-129 for all of them?
No, the kit is matched to the device family, so a mixed building takes mixed part numbers. K-129 covers the Falcon 24 and 25 openings. Elsewhere in the ACSI Series K line: K-100 for Von Duprin 33A, 35A, 98 and 99, K-103 for Sargent 80 Series, K-106 for Adams Rite 8000 and 3000, K-124 for Precision 2000, K-125 for Dorma 9000, and K-126 for Hager 4500/4600, PDQ 6200 and Stanley Commercial QED100/200/300. Walk the doors, note the device series on each, and order per opening.
7) Is the ACSI K-129 switch kit rated for a fire door?
No fire rating is carried on the K-129, so treat it as a non fire rated component. On a labeled opening, any modification to a fire exit device has to keep the device's own listing intact, so that decision belongs with the device label and the authority having jurisdiction, not with the switch kit.
8) What comes in the ACSI K-129 kit, and do I need to buy anything else to wire it?
The kit is the SPDT monitor switch assembly with long wire leads and installation instructions. The long leads are there so you can run out to a junction or transfer point without splicing right at the device. Whatever the switch is controlling, the mag lock, the alarm panel, or the access control console, is separate, as is the power transfer that gets the wire from frame to door.
9) Is the ACSI K-129 for commercial openings or will it work on a residential door?
Commercial. It is a component for commercial exit devices, specifically Falcon 24 and 25 Series panic hardware, which is what you find on egress doors in commercial and institutional buildings rather than in homes.
