ACSI K-131 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the ACSI K-131 switch kit work in a Falcon 1690 exit device?
Yes. The K-131 request-to-exit switch kit is built for Falcon 1690 and 1790 Series exit devices, and it also fits First Choice 3600 and 3700 Series devices. It's a field-installed kit, so it goes into a device that's already hung on the door rather than requiring a factory-ordered electrified device.
2) What kind of switch is in the ACSI K-131 kit, and what can I wire it to?
The K-131 carries a single SPDT (single pole double throw) switch assembly with long wire leads. Because it's double throw you get both a normally open and a normally closed contact off one switch, so it can drop a mag lock for free egress, shunt or trip a door alarm, or send a signal to a control console when the push bar is pushed. If your design needs two independent circuits switched at once, this kit won't do it, ACSI builds separate DPDT versions (the K-200, K-203 and K-226) for other device families.
3) Can the K-131 request-to-exit switch handle a 24VDC mag lock circuit directly?
The switch is rated 3A at 125VAC and 2A at 30VDC, so a 24VDC mag lock drawing well under 2 amps can be switched directly through it. Anything above those ratings, or a higher-voltage load, needs to go through a relay with the K-131 driving the relay coil instead.
4) Do I need to buy a new electrified exit device, or can I add request-to-exit to the Falcon device already on the door?
You can add it to the device you already have. The Series K kits are field installed into an existing exit device and ship with installation instructions, so a Falcon 1690 or 1790 that's already mounted gets its RX signal without pulling the device and reordering it electrified. That's the usual retrofit path when a mag lock or an access control head end is added to an opening after the fact.
5) Is the K-131 switch kit approved for use on a fire-rated exit device?
No fire rating is carried on the K-131 kit, and it is not ADA compliant as a component. Treat it as a commercial electronic accessory: on a labeled opening, the fire rating rides with the exit device and the door assembly, and any field modification to a labeled device has to stay within what the device manufacturer permits.
6) Does the K-131 monitor whether the latch bolt is actually secured, or only that the push bar was pressed?
Only the push bar. The K-131 signals when the push bar of the exit device is depressed, which is what an access control panel needs for authorized egress and mag lock release. For latch bolt position monitoring, that's a different part in the ACSI line: the K-123 latch bolt monitor switch kit for Von Duprin 33A, 35A, 98 and 99, and the K-127 latch bolt monitor for the ACSI 1500K-VD ELR kit on those same devices.
7) I'm standardizing request-to-exit across a building with mixed exit device brands. Can I use one ACSI kit everywhere?
No, you order by device family, but you can standardize on the ACSI Series K line and keep the same SPDT switch behavior and wiring throughout. Falcon 1690/1790 openings take the K-131, Falcon 24/25 the K-129, Von Duprin 33A/35A/98/99 the K-100, Von Duprin 55 the K-101, Von Duprin 88 the K-102, Sargent 9300/9400/9500 the K-105, Yale 7000 and Corbin Russwin ED4000/ED5000 the K-109, Precision 2000 the K-124, Dorma 9000 the K-125, and Hager 4500/4600 with PDQ 6200 and Stanley QED100/200/300 the K-126. Walk the doors, list the device series, then pick the kit per series.
