Securitron ZA-82CL – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Which Magnalock does the Securitron ZA-82 Z-bracket fit?
The ZA-82 adjustable Z-bracket is made for Securitron M82 series Magnalocks, specifically the "F" type Magnalock with an 8.5 inch overall length. It is not a universal bracket, so if your mag lock is a different Securitron model the ZA-82 is the wrong part.
2) Do I need a Z-bracket for an inswing door with a Magnalock?
Yes, that is exactly the situation the ZA-82 is built for. On an inswing door the magnet sits on the header and the armature needs to hang below it on the door face, which is what the Z shape does. The ZA-82 covers inswing applications with the 8.5 inch "F" type M82 Magnalock. Outswing doors normally mount the armature flat on the door and do not need this bracket.
3) How much adjustment does the Securitron ZA-82 bracket give me for an out-of-square opening?
1.25 inches of lateral travel, adjustable from 2-1/4 inches to 3-1/2 inches off the door or header. That range is what lets you dial the armature into contact with the magnet face when the door or frame is not perfectly square or when the stop depth varies.
4) Does the Securitron ZA-82 come with a cover, or do I order that separately?
An oversized dress cover is included with the bracket. You do not need to order a separate cover to finish the installation cleanly.
5) What finishes does the Securitron ZA-82 Z-bracket come in, and how do I order the right one?
Three: black anodized (ZA-82BK), clear anodized (ZA-82CL), and satin stainless (ZA-82SS). Pick the one that matches the finish of the M82 Magnalock already on the opening, since the bracket and dress cover sit in plain view on the door.
6) Can I use a door closer parallel arm bracket in place of a Magnalock Z-bracket?
No. Parallel arm brackets such as the Corbin Russwin 615F5 or 188F41 mount a closer arm to the frame soffit and have nothing to do with magnetic locking. The ZA-82 carries the armature of a Securitron M82 Magnalock on an inswing door. They are not interchangeable in either direction.
