The AC-PROX-1G is a 125 kHz Wiegand proximity reader designed for single-gang and mullion mounting. Up to 6" non-contact read range with clamshell card. It can read Aiphone 40-bit credentials, certain HID®, AWID®, and Pyramid credentials. Mounting has horizontal and vertical mounting slots, which allow the reader to be adjusted and leveled.

1) What credentials will the Aiphone AC-PROX-1G proximity reader read?
It's a 125 kHz Wiegand reader that reads Aiphone 40-bit credentials plus certain HID, AWID, and Pyramid cards and fobs. If your site is already carrying 125 kHz prox credentials from those lines, you can usually keep them. What it will not do is read 13.56 MHz smart credentials, since the reader operates at 125 kHz only.
2) Can this Aiphone prox reader be mounted outside on an exterior door?
Yes, the AC-PROX-1G is outdoor rated, with an operating range of -40 to 149 degrees F. That covers exterior entries, gates, and unconditioned garages and vestibules in most climates.
3) What voltage and current does the AC-PROX-1G need from the access control panel?
It runs on 5 to 14V DC and draws 45 mA. That range covers both 12V DC panel outputs and lower-voltage reader ports, and at 45 mA the load is small enough that several readers can share a typical panel supply. Size your power supply and battery backup on the total of all readers plus locks.
4) Is the Aiphone AC-PROX-1G UL listed for access control?
It carries UL 294 and ULC S319-05 listings, and also CSA, FCC, CE, and C-Tick certifications. UL 294 is the access control unit standard specifiers usually call out on institutional and healthcare openings, so it can be cited on that line of a submittal.
5) How close does a card have to be to the reader to work?
Read range is up to 6 inches with a clamshell card. Thinner cards and key fobs typically present at shorter distances, so mount the reader where a user can hold a credential within a few inches of the faceplate. Mounting on or behind metal can also shorten the practical range.
6) Does this reader include a keypad for PIN entry?
No. The AC-PROX-1G is card-only, a 125 kHz proximity reader with no keypad. If you need card-plus-PIN or PIN-only credentials at the door, you need a reader/keypad combination unit instead of this one.
