2) What cable do I run from AX Series door stations back to the AX-320C?

The link from the main central exchange unit to the add-on is also limited to 16 feet, so the two units effectively live in the same rack.
3) What is the door release contact rating on the Aiphone AX-320C, and will it drive a maglock or electric strike directly?
The door release is a programmable dry contact rated 24V AC/DC at 500mA. That is enough for a small strike coil but not for most maglocks or higher-draw strikes. For anything above that rating, switch the load through an Aiphone RY-24L relay and let the AX-320C contact drive the relay instead of the lock.
4) How is the AX-320C powered, and does it need its own power supply?
Power comes in on two 24V DC power supply input terminals, fed with shielded 2-conductor cable (Aiphone #821802). The supply has to sit close: 16 feet at 22AWG, 33 feet at 18AWG. Budget a 24V DC supply and rack space for it alongside the unit; the add-on does not draw power through the link from the main exchange.
5) Is the AX-320C a standalone intercom exchange or does it need a main central exchange unit?
It is an add-on, not a starting point. The AX-320C expands an existing AX Series system and ties back to a central exchange unit over a run of no more than 16 feet. If you are building an AX system from scratch, the main central exchange unit comes first and the AX-320C goes in when you need capacity for more door and sub stations.
6) Can the AX-320C be mounted in a standard equipment rack?
It mounts in a 19 inch EIA rack and takes 2U of space, or it can be wall mounted if you have no rack in the closet. Plan the rack position next to the main central exchange unit, because the cable between the two is limited to 16 feet.
7) Can I reuse existing structured cabling for AX Series door stations, or do I need to pull new wire?
Station wiring is Cat-5e, so existing structured cabling that meets Cat-5e and stays inside the 980 foot limit per station can carry the run. The power side cannot: that leg needs shielded 2-conductor (Aiphone #821802) and only tolerates 16 to 33 feet depending on gauge, so it is always a dedicated short pull, not something you borrow from the data closet.
