1) Does the Aiphone IX-RS room sub station need its own power supply, or will PoE run it?
PoE runs it. The IX-RS is powered by 802.3af PoE, Class 0, so a single Cat cable off a PoE switch or injector handles both power and network. No local transformer or power supply at the station.
2) Will the Aiphone IX-RS work with a third-party SIP phone system, or only with Aiphone IX stations?
It is SIP 2.0 compliant, so it can register to a SIP server and talk to non-Aiphone SIP endpoints as well as running on an Aiphone IX system. That is what makes it usable where a building already has a VoIP platform in place and does not want a separate intercom network.
3) Is the IX-RS a door station for outside the entry, or an inside station?
Inside. The IX-RS is a room sub station, meant to sit at a desk, nurse station, back office, or staff room to answer calls and talk to other stations on the system. It is not the weather-exposed entry unit you mount at the door.
4) Can staff take a call privately on the Aiphone IX-RS, or is everything on speaker?
Both. The IX-RS has a handset plus hands-free operation, so a call can be answered open on the speaker or lifted to the handset for a private conversation. That is the usual reason it gets picked over a speaker-only station in a lobby, clinic, or leasing office where conversations get overheard.
5) Does the IX-RS do video, or is it audio only?
Audio only. The IX-RS is an IP audio station with no camera and no display. If the application needs to see who is at the entry from the answering point, this is the wrong station and you want a video model in the IX line instead.
6) Can the IX-RS release a door strike or trigger anything else?
It carries 1 contact output and 1 trigger input. The contact output can drive an external relay or device, and the trigger input lets an external dry contact signal the station. For higher-current locks, run the contact output into a suitably rated relay rather than switching the lock directly.
7) Can I add a louder speaker to the Aiphone IX-RS for a noisy shop or warehouse area?
Yes. There is an 8 ohm, 2-watt audio output for a secondary speaker, so you can extend audio into a machine shop, loading dock, or corridor where the station's own speaker will not carry. Match the external speaker to 8 ohms and keep it within the 2-watt output.
8) Is the Aiphone IX-RS a UL certified station?
UL certification is not automatic across every IX-RS unit. If your project spec calls for it, verify the unit carries a UL sticker, or check the model with Aiphone before it goes on the submittal.
9) What colors does the Aiphone IX-RS come in?
