The JO-1FD is a video expansion station for use with the JO-1MD or JO-1MDW master stations. It is used when a second master station is required. The station is installed between the JO door station and the master station, using a 2-conductor to the door and a 6-conductor to the master.

During a call from the door station, video will be displayed on the 7" TFT screen, accompanied by a short chime. Answering the call is done by a short push and release of the talk button for hands-free communication, or a push and hold for Push‑to‑Talk communication. Door release is also available by pushing the key button at any time.

Outside of communications, the monitor button can be used to discretely view video from the door station. Volume levels for the call tone and from the door can be adjusted independently using a single button, based on the current status of the station.

Aiphone JO-1FD – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can the Aiphone JO-1FD be used as a standalone intercom monitor, or does it need another station?
The JO-1FD is an expansion station only. It has to run with a JO-1MD or JO-1MDW master station and cannot serve as the system's only inside station. Reach for it when an opening needs a second answering point, say a front desk plus a back office, and wire it in between the JO door station and the master.
2) How is the Aiphone JO-1FD expansion monitor wired?
Two conductors run to the door station and six conductors run to the master station. The JO-1FD sits in the middle of that run. The 2-wire leg to the door is what keeps a retrofit cheap; the 6-conductor leg is the one people forget to pull when they add a second inside station later.
3) What power supply does the Aiphone JO-1FD need?
18V DC, from the PS-1820UL supply, with a maximum current draw of 420mA. Size the supply for the whole system, not just this station, since the expansion monitor adds its draw on top of the master and door station already on the transformer.
4) Can the second monitor release the door, or only the main station?
Door release works from the JO-1FD at any time by pressing the key button, in or out of a call. The release runs through a normally open dry contact rated 24V AC/DC at 500mA, so it will drive a standard strike relay or an electric strike within that rating. Anything drawing more than 500mA needs an interposing relay.
5) Is the Aiphone JO-1FD hands free or push to talk?
Both. A short push and release of the talk button gives hands-free, voice-actuated conversation; press and hold gives push-to-talk, release to listen. Push-to-talk is the one to use in a noisy lobby or a windy entry where voice actuation keeps cutting the far end off.
6) Can I check the entrance camera from the JO-1FD without the visitor knowing?
Yes. The monitor button pulls up video from the door station outside of a call, with no audio path opened to the entry, so staff can look at who is at the door before deciding to answer. On an incoming call the 7 inch TFT LCD comes up with a short chime.
7) Is the Aiphone JO-1FD rated for an unheated vestibule or garage?
Operating range is 32 to 104 degrees F (0 to 40 C), so it belongs on the conditioned side of the building. An unheated vestibule that drops below freezing, or a garage that bakes past 104 in summer, is outside what the station is rated for. The housing is flame resistant ABS resin in white.
8) Does the JO-1FD come in any finish other than white?
White only, in flame resistant ABS resin. There is one model, JO-1FD, with no finish or size options to specify, so the only ordering decisions left are the master station it pairs with and the power supply.
9) Is the Aiphone JO Series video intercom meant for commercial buildings or homes?
The JO-1FD expansion monitor is classed as commercial equipment. In practice it suits small commercial entries, multi-family front doors, and back-office answering points where one door station serves two inside stations. Larger buildings with many inside stations outgrow a 1-2 system and need a different Aiphone platform.
