Aiphone JO-DA – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Aiphone JO-DA door station work with my existing Aiphone monitor, or does it only work with JO Series?
The JO-DA is built for the JO Series only. It talks to JO master and expansion stations over 2-conductor wire and takes its power from the inside monitor, so there is no separate transformer at the door. Drop it onto a different Aiphone system and it has nothing to pair with.
2) How far can I run wire from the Aiphone JO-DA door station back to the monitor?
330 feet on 18 AWG 2-conductor solid core cable, or 165 feet if you are pulling 22 AWG. Aiphone wire #871802 is the 18 AWG part. The run must be low capacitance and non-shielded. If your gate or entry is farther than 330 feet from the monitor location, this system will not reach and you need a different topology.
3) What kind of box do I need to rough in for an Aiphone JO-DA?
A standard 1-gang electrical box. The JO-DA is a surface wall mount station, so the box sits in the wall and the station mounts over it. No back box kit or flush cut-in is involved. If you want the station sitting flush in the wall instead of proud of it, the JO-DVF is the flush mount model in the same family.
4) Can the Aiphone JO-DA be mounted outdoors or in an unheated entry?
Yes. It is rated IP54 and runs from -40F to 140F (-40C to 60C), so an exterior door face, a covered entry, or an unheated vestibule is within spec. The faceplate is self-extinguishing PC + ABS plastic rather than metal, which is worth knowing if the opening takes abuse or you want a metal station.
5) What is the difference between the Aiphone JO-DA, JO-DV and JO-DVF door stations?
Mounting style is the split. JO-DA and JO-DV are surface mount; JO-DVF is flush mount. All three are JO Series video door stations. Tamper-resistant screws come supplied for mounting the JO-DV and JO-DVF. Pick the DVF only when the wall is opened up and you want the station recessed, otherwise a surface station over a 1-gang box is the faster install.
6) Does the Aiphone JO-DA door station see visitors at night?
It has a white LED illuminator for low-light conditions, paired with a 1/4 inch color CMOS camera. That covers a dark porch or a covered entry at night without a separate light fixture.
7) Does a visitor have to hold a button to talk on the Aiphone JO-DA?
No. Communication is hands-free, 2-way, between the door station and the JO master or expansion station. The visitor presses the call button once to ring the master, then just talks. Each JO-DA has the camera, microphone, speaker and call button in the one unit.
8) Is the Aiphone JO-DA suitable for a commercial building or is it a residential doorbell?
