1) What comes in the Aiphone JOS-1AW box set, and do I need to buy anything else to make it work?
The JOS-1AW set ships with three pieces: the JO-1MDW 7 inch touchscreen inside monitor, the JO-DA surface mount video door station, and the PS-1820UL power supply. That covers a complete one-door, one-monitor system. Wire is not in the box, and you supply the 1 gang electrical box the door station mounts to. If you want a desk mounted monitor instead of wall mounted, the MCW-S stand is a separate item. A MicroSD card is also extra if you want more than the onboard recording capacity.
2) How far can the Aiphone JO-DA door station be from the JO-1MDW monitor?
Run length depends on wire gauge: 165 feet on 22AWG, 330 feet on 18AWG. The run is 2 conductor, low capacitance, non-shielded, and it is not polarity-critical station-to-station wiring you need to buy special cable for. The door station draws its power from the inside monitor, so there is no second power run to the entrance.
3) Can the JO-DA door station be installed outdoors in cold or wet weather?
Yes. The JO-DA carries an IP54 enclosure rating and an operating range of -40 to 140 F (-40 to 60 C), so it handles a typical exterior entrance in northern climates. The faceplate is self-extinguishing PC + ABS plastic. IP54 is splash and dust protected, not submersible, so mount it under some overhang where you can rather than in a spot that takes direct driven rain.
4) Will the Aiphone JOS-1AW still answer the door if my internet goes down?
Yes. The JO-1MDW monitor is hardwired to the door station, so calls ring and can be answered at the monitor regardless of the network. The Wi-Fi side (2.4 GHz, 802.11b/g/n) only carries the smartphone app. If the internet drops, you lose remote answering on phones but the on-site monitor keeps working, including door release and call recording.
5) How many phones can be tied to one Aiphone JO Series intercom system?
Up to 8 smartphones or tablets per system, using the Intercom App Type B from the Apple App Store or Google Play. Each of those devices can see and talk to the visitor and release the door with the slider button in the app. For a small property management office or a family, that is usually enough; if you need more users than that, you are into a different system class.
6) How many calls will the Aiphone JO-1MDW record, and do I pay a monthly fee for the video?
No fees, no cloud subscription. Recording is local. Onboard memory holds 10 calls at 10 seconds each. Drop in a micro SDHC card up to 32GB and that goes to 1,000 calls at 10 seconds each. Recording can be triggered manually or set to capture every call automatically, and you can play recordings back on the monitor or through the app.
7) Can I add a second door station to the Aiphone JOS-1AW set?
Yes, the JO-DV is the add-on for a second entrance. Note that the JO-DA supplied in the box set is not sold separately, so if you are planning a two-door layout, plan on the JO-DV for the second opening rather than trying to source a second JO-DA.

10) Is the Aiphone JOS-1AW suitable for a small commercial building or is it a residential product?
Aiphone classes the JOS-1AW as commercial. Practically, it fits a single entrance with one monitor: a small office suite, a leasing office, a clinic front door, a single-tenant storefront, or a high-end residence. It is a one-door, one-master architecture with up to 8 app users. It is not a multi-tenant directory system, so a 40 unit apartment building with one panel and forty apartments is a different product family.
11) Does the Aiphone JO-1MDW monitor have to be wall mounted?
Wall mount is the standard install, surface mounted, no deep back box needed. If you would rather have it sitting on a desk or a counter at a leasing office or front desk, the MCW-S stand converts it to a desk unit.
