The JP-4HD is a video sub master station for use with the JP-4MED master station. A maximum of seven sub master stations can be used in the JP Series. The JP-4HD offers a 7" touchscreen LCD and allows for handset (duplex) and hands-free (VOX) communication.

This unit is equipped with a door release button for the user to allow visitor entry. The JP-4HD is also equipped with pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) and brightness controls, giving the user control of the door station camera angle and camera lighting for better visibility.

The JP-4HD connects to either the master station or JP-8Z distribution unit using CAT-5e / CAT-6 cable.

1) Can the Aiphone JP-4HD be used as a standalone video intercom master station?
No. The JP-4HD is a sub master station, so it has to be paired with a JP-4MED master station in a JP Series system. If you need the primary station that runs the system, order the JP-4MED and add JP-4HD units as the additional answering points. A JP Series system takes up to seven sub master stations, so you can put a screen in the front office, the back office, the apartment, and so on off one master.
2) What wiring does the Aiphone JP-4HD need, and how far can it run from the master station?
Cat-5e or Cat-6, a single run, back to either the JP-4MED master station or a JP-8Z distribution unit. Distance is what usually decides the layout: 650 feet from master to sub master when a power supply is used, 98 feet from master to sub master without one, and 165 feet from a JP-8Z to the sub master. If your run is past 98 feet on a direct home run, you are adding a power supply or bringing the JP-8Z into the design.
3) How does the Aiphone JP-4HD mount, and does it come with a desk stand?
Surface wall mount out of the box. Desk mounting uses the MCW-S/A, which is sold separately, so if you want it sitting on a leasing desk or a guard counter rather than on the wall, add that stand to the order. Plan the wall opening around a unit measuring 5-11/16 x 10-1/16 x 1-7/8 inches (H x W x D).
4) Can staff release the door from the JP-4HD sub station, or only from the main station?
From the sub station. Each JP-4HD has its own door release button with selective door release, so a second or third answering point can let a visitor in without anyone walking to the master. That is the usual reason to add one: front desk and back office both need to buzz people through.
5) Can you adjust the door camera view from the JP-4HD, or is it a fixed image?
Not fixed. The JP-4HD has digital pan, tilt and zoom plus brightness control, both driven from the 7 inch touchscreen, so the operator can swing the view or brighten a backlit entry to read a face or a delivery label. Useful when the door station sits under a canopy or faces glass that washes the picture out at certain hours.
6) Does the Aiphone JP-4HD have a handset, or is it hands-free only?
Both. It supports handset communication, which is simultaneous (duplex) so both parties can talk at once, and hands-free using auto voice actuation (VOX), where the audio switches direction with whoever is speaking. Duplex on the handset is the one to use in a noisy lobby or where the conversation matters; VOX keeps staff hands free. It also carries hearing aid T-mode compatibility.
7) Can JP-4HD stations call each other, or only answer the door?
Room to room calling is built in, so stations in the system can be used as an internal intercom between offices or units, not just to answer the entrance. You can also pull up the door station camera on demand with a single button press rather than waiting for a visitor to ring in, which is how most property staff use it for a quick look at the entry.
8) Can the Aiphone JP-4HD be installed in an unheated vestibule or parking booth?
Only where it stays between 32 and 104 degrees F (0 to 40 C). That is an interior, conditioned-space rating, so an unheated vestibule in a cold climate or an uncooled booth in summer is outside it. Keep the JP-4HD inside and put the weather-rated door station at the entrance.
9) How much power does a JP-4HD draw when sizing the intercom power supply?
200mA maximum per station. Multiply that by however many sub masters you are hanging on the system (up to seven are allowed) when you size the supply, and remember that runs over 98 feet from the master require a power supply anyway rather than drawing from the master alone.
10) Is the Aiphone JP-4HD a residential or commercial-grade intercom station?
Commercial. It is built for JP Series commercial video entry systems, offices, multi-family buildings, and institutional entrances where more than one person needs to answer the door and release it. Only one model is offered, the JP-4HD itself, so there is no finish or configuration to specify when ordering.
