Aiphone JPS-4AEDV – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What comes in the Aiphone JPS-4AEDV video intercom set?
Three pieces ship together: the JP-DV surface mount color video door station, the JP-4MED 7 inch color touchscreen video master station, and the PS-2420UL 24V DC Class II power supply. Tamper resistant screws are provided for mounting the door station. You still need to supply wire, and the door station is aluminum die cast for exterior/vandal duty.
2) What wire do I run between the JP-DV door station and the JP-4MED master, and how far can it go?
Two conductor, mid capacitance, solid, non shielded cable, Aiphone #871802. Distance limit from door station to master is 165 feet on 22AWG or 330 feet on 18AWG. The run from the PS-2420UL power supply to the master is much shorter: 16 feet at 22AWG, 33 feet at 18AWG, so plan on mounting the supply close to the master, not at the door.
3) How many door stations and inside stations will the JP-4MED master support?
Up to 4 door stations and 8 inside stations on one JP-4MED system. That is the ceiling for the whole system, so a small multi-tenant building or a facility with a front entry, a rear service door and a gate station can run off a single master. Every inside station carries a door release button so any of them can let a visitor in.
4) Can the PS-2420UL power supply be mounted outdoors next to the entry?
No. The PS-2420UL is a 24V DC Class II supply designed for indoor use only, and it is UL and CSA listed on that basis. Put it in an electrical room, closet, or IT space inside the building. Remember the short run limit back to the master as well, 33 feet at 18AWG.
5) Is the JPS-4AEDV set suitable for commercial buildings or is it a residential product?
Aiphone classifies the JPS-4AEDV as commercial. The die cast aluminum door station with tamper resistant screws is what makes it suitable for an unattended public entrance, while a plastic residential station would not last there.
6) Does the JP-4MED have a handset, or is it hands-free only?
Both. The JP-4MED does handset duplex (simultaneous) communication and hands-free VOX auto-voice actuation. Hands-free suits a busy front desk where staff have their hands full; the handset gives privacy when a tenant or patient conversation should not carry across the lobby.
7) How much of the entry area will the JP-DV camera actually see?
The JP-DV uses a 1/4 inch CMOS camera with a wide view of roughly 100 degrees by 170 degrees, plus digital pan, tilt and zoom from the master. That spread covers a visitor standing off to one side of the door or a package left on the ground, and the digital PTZ lets the operator pull in on a face or a delivery label without moving the station.
8) Is the JP-DV flush mount or surface mount?
Surface mount. The JP-DV mounts on the face of the wall or frame, so there is no back box cut-in required at the opening, which is the easier path on masonry or an existing finished entry.
